  3. New powers come into force on Friday that could lead to millions of fines handed out to motorists by police for committing driving offences they did not know existed !!! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2391203/Millions-motorists-face-fined-range-sweeping-new-police-powers-tackle-careless-drivers.html
  4. Hi, I searched on Google and here seems a good place to ask. I have been sent two letters today one with my name on and one with one of my mates. You can view one of the letters here: http://s2.postimage.org/c4rwacl61/59505_10152451539445693_14521781_n.jpg Now Me and my mate in the room i was in are non smokers. The other room my mate has guaranteed me he did not smoke. I will be truthful with this bit, another of my mates has said in a different room there was smoking but they have not received a letter or should i say i have not receieved anything for them - i was the one who made the bookings. Can anyone shed any light on what i should do? As clearly the rooms/booking ref they have accused of smoking are incorrect. Thanks
  5. Hi Now the government has introduced fines for all those who take their children out of school in term time it has left families having to pay massive differences in holiday costs and also leaving some families not been able to take their children on holiday at all. There are also the many families who have set times of the year they can take their holidays. It used to be you were allowed 10 days holiday during term time which their was nothing wrong with that system at all now the only winners out of this are the holiday companies and government. Please sign the petition below it doesn't have long left. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/49640
  6. Hi guys. Here's my story in a nutshell. 6 months ago I sold my car. I filled in the necessary documents and thought all was ok. A few months later I started receiving fines (9 of them in total so far totalling £1000+) for parking and bus lane contraventions in Leeds & Bradford. I live 70 miles away. I contacted the buyer, he said it has been sold on twice since then. I contacted the DVLA, they said I was the current owner on the system and the only way to change this was to send them a letter stating who I sold it to. I did this and received a letter back saying that it was not enough evidence and the buyer would have to write them a letter saying he had bought it from me. Now, even the most honest of people would not drop what they're doing to go and write a letter to say they are the owner of a vehicle so that they themselves can start to receive the fines. A few days later I again contacted the DVLA and they said that the details had been changed on the system but would not confirm who was the registered owner. I presume that they had manually edited the name and address to the details of the buyer that I supplied but this was obviously not confirmed by the buyer so the information was not 'official'. The lady said that everything would be fine and Leeds & Bradford city councils would automatically be notified and the fines would be re-sent to the new registered owner. I have just returned from a 3 week holiday to 9 letters saying that I have to pay the fines or "you're possessions may be removed and sold to pay the charges". I called the number on the letters and they said I should have kept a receipt of sale and it was my fault. As I sold it to a friend for £250 just to get it off my hands I, at the time, did not think anything like this would happen and if I did get a receipt then I don't know where it is now. I am living with my parents so this is obviously causing distress for them too. I have recently set up my own business but most of my time seems to be spent trying to sort this mess out. I have done nothing wrong, it seems as though the DVLA have a backlog of V5's to update and not enough data inputters. I can't believe that 6 months down the line I have 9 letters threatening me with bailiff action and nobody can seem to help any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Sam
  7. Parking fines could double because they are not enough to stop people parking their cars illegally, it has emerged. Norman Baker, a transport minister, is looking at raising the amount councils can charge for parking illegally - currently capped at £70 outside London. The Liberal Democrat is concerned that the penalty is failing to keep pace with fines in the capital, where the maximum is £130. Councils make £400 million a year in profit on parking fines which they are legally bound to spend on transport projects. More ... Lets put this in the correct wording shall we. First the subject heading - ... to increase profit, Second, a Liberal Democrat, some nobody from a nobody party who should never have been where they are and never will be again. We all know this has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with illegal parking but all about turning big bucks into even bigger bucks. Seeing as the private con brigade base their invoices on council fines, they will no doubt jump at the chance to double theirs as well. [PS. £400 million would easily take care of all the UK potholes, so what are they spending it on?]
  8. Hi I'm in need of some quick advice for a friend please, My friend has had the bailiffs at her door this morning for her X-boyfriend unpaid fines Her X-boyfriend hasn't lived or been with her for over 9months now, She wants to know what to tell the bailiffs as they are coming back on Friday & said they will get a lock smith out if they need to get in the house, (Nothing in the house is his) She told them he don't live there any more but they are insisting on coming back to seize goods. I told her not to let them in but she is panicking any help will be much appreciated thanks.
  9. Many drivers face a fine of £1,000 if they fail to update their photo-card driving licences, according to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency. It started issuing photo-card licences 15 years ago and more than 30 million drivers now have one. These are usually valid for 10 years and there is a legal requirement for drivers to renew the photograph at the same time as they renew their licence. However, two million drivers have failed to do this. More ...
  10. I am planning "reduced fines day" in London when the weather gets better in a couple of months. How it works - based on the idea "Meter maids" in Australia where the meter is topped up before ticket expiry. I only have a mate to help so far but this WILL go ahead whether I stand alone and do it myself in a street for a day. The object is to cut the councils' revenue by stopping the traffic wardens issuing fines to unsuspecting motorist who are slightly late back to their car or unaware they've parked in the wrong location. Anyone who pulls up in the street will be advised they have parked wrongfully and in danger of a pcn. Obviously the scheme won't be advertised to prevent folk taking advantage by not paying for a parking ticket. Providing that the time limit hasn't exceeded, a small amount can be entered into the ticket machine when a warden appears (say for 10 mins) and hopefully the driver will return soon when the "top up fee" could be claimed back. Charitable donations could also cover the cost of these top ups. Anyone else in on this?

  12. Almost 350,000 parking fines - totalling an estimated £23m - may have been unlawfully issued to motorists in London, a BBC investigation has found. In 2010 a ticket issued in a suspended parking bay was ruled unlawful because Camden Council did not have authorisation for its signage. Now the BBC has learned 14 councils still have no authorisation for these signs, while others went years without. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-21339117
  13. I bought a car in December 2010 without the log book. The car was damaged so my intention was to have it off road to fix it up and sell it on without the logbook so that it remains as 1 former keeper from new. Well this process took longer than expected. With the company who sold me the vehicle having it back in their possession for most of the time as to cut a long story short they tried to rob me basically by removing good parts and fitting faulty parts to the car before they sold it to me, so i was in a battle with them to get them to sort it. In the mean time when i did have possession of the car i taxed it using the green new keepers supplement part. The post office stamped the barcode of this slip. Anyway now is 2013 so 2 years 2 months later, i do not have a logbook and i do not have tax. So my question is, when i pop to the DVLA to get it all sorted. When i tell them i bought the car in 2010 will they send me a fine for no tax? because i did not declare it sorn and i only taxed it 1 time. It HAS been offroad but not declared. Second question is, i tried to be cheeky and i tried to rub off the post office stamp on my new keepers supplement barcode so i could nip to the post office and tax it for the second time (this time i wanted to sell the car as it was now sorted of its problems). I backed out going as it looked a bit.....dodgey, anyway...will the DVLA accept the green part to get a new log book in my name? even defaced?. This car has been nothing but hassle for me, cursed, jinxed...however you want to call it. I've lost over 4 grand in 2 years trying to rectify the issues without taking the seller to court and the last thing i need is big fines for not taxing (when i didnt have possession of the car most of the time).

  15. Hello everyone, I am new to this site today and am hoping someone on here can help me. I started receiving text messages from a company called Mackenzie Hall about two weeks ago. I ignored the texts as I assumed they were spam but two days ago I received a letter from them as follows: "We are attempting to contact the above named person regarding a personal matter. We have been provided your address as being the possible residential details for our subject. Therefore if you are the person named above, then please contact our office immediately on telephone number 0844 411 5655 quoting the above reference number, whereupon further detailed information can be provided." I Google'd this company and discovered they were a debt collection agency who deal in very old debts and are generally not very nice people to deal with. I have absolutely no idea what this debt is as in 2007 I had a massive brain haemorrhage and have virtually zero memory of my life before that date, so I went to the local CAB today who advised me to write a Without Prejudice letter to them asking what the claim is for etc. I am not very good with things like this so was hoping someone on here would be able to help me write this Without Prejudice letter so I can send it to these people recorded delivery and find out what the heck it is all about. I have made no contact with Mackenzie Hall as yet. I do not want them sending me anymore text messages or phoning my house phone and leaving automated messages which they have also started doing. Yes I do feel a bit harrassed by them and quite frankly it's causing me lots of headaches which, after having a brain haemorrhage I could do without! Any help from you wonderful people would be extremely appreciated Thank you in advance x
  16. Several banks have been fined in this LIBOR situation and the RBS has been involved today according to the news. Can someone please tell me where all of this large amount of money that is exacted in fines goes?
  17. hi im writing on behalf of a friend as the caggers have been so good to me, i hope they can help. my friend, sillyly in his youth (10 years plus) made a lot of messes on his license. things he cant remeber such as driving with no insurance, going through red lights, parking fines etc. he didnt pay these and moved around somehwta. i believe he was banned. we are talking about 13 years ago here and he cant really remeber. he is looking for work and needs a license to do most jobs. what will happen with these fines? he is financially penniless to put it nicely. could he face prison? the dvla have asked has he ever lived at his previous address which was not mentioned....as he applied for a first license. what should he do? he doesnt wanna face prison due to all the unpaid fines and by what he says they were around 3k, he deffo dont need baillifs visiting. should he say no? what will happen. awaiting your help. thanks
  18. My son was made redundant. He was an apprentice Joiners. A friend let him park the car on their drive. He could not afford to tax the car and after keeping it a long time eventually decided to sell it, He was already depressed being out of work. But deciding to sell the car really got him down. He pulled the car out of the drive to get room, so he could change the brake pads so that he could take it to get MOT'd before he sold it. Camera van came around the street which is in a culdesac nowhere near a main road. They put a big yellow sticker on it and a truck came and towed it away, even though it had been put back in the drive. Since then the car has been crushed because he could not pay the stacked up fees to get it back. Oh yes the car was sorned. I know because I did it for him. When I complained about the car being taken out of the drive. They said it was not sorned even though I went into the office in belfast. Now how can this be right. Before a law like this become legal, i thought that the authorities had to make sure that it was reasonable that everyone could comply with it. Given that there are a huge amount of houses without any sort of drive. And at least 50% of the population could not comply with keeping a car off the road in a drive if there car was not taxed. Then it was unreasonable of them to introduce a law that allowed them to issue a fine or tow a car away like that. Is this not discriminating against the poor. My son an apprentice Joiner, gets laid off and his apprentiship ditched. He has a car worth money, but he can't afford run it so it is left parked up. Until such times as he can get work. He did not want to sell it because he had put a lot of work into it and would need a car if he got something in the future. So why get rid of a good car when he would have had to buy a car to get to work in the future. Ok he eventually decided he had no choice but do you see what I mean, Is there anything wrong in that. where is the crime. Its all wrong. Those that are the least well off, being put upon because they can't comply with a law that is totally unfair and half the population that are poor can't comply with. Anything to rake in more money.. How can a law like this be challenged. Surely to god the law has to be able to be complied with. They call being parked on the highway/road anything they want to suit themselves.
  19. Episode 4 covers parking fines on private land will post link later when its up on iplayer
  20. has the law changed ???? The Law from 1-10-2012: A new Law from 1st October 2012 changed liability for parking on private land from the driver of the vehicle to the vehicle’s registered keeper, unless the keeper clearly identifies who was driving the car at the time. does this now mean I have to buy my £50 fine for parking in a disabled bay infront of argos

  23. Its fund managers carried out two huge derivatives deals in 2008 and 2009, to stop the fund becoming insolvent if share prices fell further. But the vitally important deals were carried out without the explicit approval of senior directors. The FSA said the firm's supervision had been "unclear and inadequate". The regulator did not dispute the merit of the two deals, which affected the investments of 114,000 life insurance and pension policies. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19994565
