  1. I am also very concerned if i involve the police it might make things worse with my landlord
  2. Again thanks, I will do that. I have already spoken with shelter they cant see me for at least a week. I suppose they are really busy. Is there anything else I can do? A week of worry and stress with no idea what could happen.
  3. Thanks for the quick response. I haven't gone to the police yet becuase he hasn't actually done anything yet, most of threats have come from telephone conversations. I know what they will say. I have spoken to the council, they cant help unless I am actually homeless, they did say that they can help if I have a written demand to leave or a letter from the court. Fat chance of my landlord going through legimate channels.
  4. I have serious problem with my private landlord which is causing me enormous stress I should note I live in Scotland, but the laws are very similar in England. If I start at the beginning. I took this place 6 months ago, I was never given a contract or the landlords address, but I was desperate to find somewhere local to where I worked, so I took it. I know that was a mistake. My rent as always been on time (proved by my bank statements) Apart from the fact I am fairly confident in saying my landlord is not a registered landlord which is illegal and the place does not have an electric certificate which is also illegal. I won’t waffle on why I know this but I am 99.9% sure I am right. My main problem is I lost my job six weeks ago and am awaiting money (dwp) and looking for another job. I am only one month in arrears, but my landlord has told me to leave. Well he has demanded. He has done the following to date. Threated by phone with demands to pay money. Abusive txt messages saying he will come in and take my keys Threated to cut my gas and electric off. When I threatened to report him for harassment, he threatened to come to my home with his friends to ‘discuss the matter’. I really don’t think he wants to ‘discuss the matter’, based on his previous interactions with me, that was a thinly veiled threat of violence. Obviously whether this happens or not is beside the point now he is actually threatening me. I’m scared and I can’t focus on job hunting because I don’t know what is going to happen next. The problem I face is I can’t do anything. I only have his bank details and mobile number he refuses to give me his address (further evidence this is very dodgy) I can’t report him if I don’t know where he lives. All I do is sit here terrified in case the door opens. I know if he comes here and removes my stuff by force I can ring the police. But my biggest fear is if I go to an interview and come back and my stuff is on the streets and the locks are changed. It’s all well and good saying he can’t do this but that doesn’t help me if I am homeless and my stuff is being stolen outside in the street. I’m afraid to leave the house and because I don’t have his address details there is nothing I can do. Please can someone help me, It’s actually not even a month’s rent in arrears. I feel so helpless and terrified.
  5. They are refusing to budge. I pay up or they sell my goods. No release of goods and then payment or any kind of arrangement. Has anyone body else had to deal with self storage companies refusing to cooperate.
  6. How can I fix this?????????? They state 'In order to remove your items from storage the complete outstanding balance will need to be paid in full to allow access.' They are also repetively quote me signing a contract I have tried to reason with them all they do is quote T&C's and ignore the content of my letters. help
  7. It does say they can do this but more worrying it goes on to say they can sell my goods if I dont cough up the arrears. I find this extemeely worrying.
  8. I was in-between houses so I put my stuff in self-storage, then I lost my job. I have another job now, but I have arrears with the self-storage company. They keep slapping on approx. £25 every couple of weeks in late payment fess. They wont allow me to take my stuff out and come to some arrangement, they have changed the locks and my bill just gets higher and higher and whilst I can’t get my stuff out every week I get charged another week for storage I feel trapped in a vicious circle my bill just escalates and they rub their hands together when my stuff stays in storage for another week. Help
  9. The advice has been great but does anyone know how to prevent this in the first place? This girl has done nothing wrong, apart from not formally remove herself from the tenacy agreement three years ago. This is madness if she gets slapped with a decree regardless of her being able to remove it.
  10. No paper work, it went to the property she lived at three years ago, she only knows about the court date and decree from a friend of a friend. My main question is how can she stop this? It has nothing to do with her and I would imagine it is a nightmare trying to get these things removed.
  11. My friend is currently in hospital with depression and anorexia. She almost died. Her ex-boyfriend has done a runner from the flat they shared years ago. She has not lived at the property for over 3 years is not on the electoral register. Long story short. It seems her ex is facing a decree (ccj) for the arrears on the 12th January and because she is also named she will presumably get the same. She does not need this on top of the other trouble she is dealing with. This decree will be effectively done without her knowledge as the judge has no address for her. First question with no address to send the paper work could she get this decision recalled? How easy is it? Second question. Is it possible to prevent this from happening in the first place? Her only crime it seems was not formally removing herself from the tenancy agreement three years ago. Please help I don’t want her to attempt suicide again.
  12. Do you have a link for this? BH have suspended late fees for the past few months, with I understand no immediate plans to re-introduce them. There must be FOS link on the subject I'll be damned if I can find it, and guess what nothing is on their website. Wonder why. hahahaha Thats gotta hurt their profit. :)
  13. okay if laptop cost x and they charge Y becuase they add the extra insurance and other cover. How do go about getting the extra removed from payments? I'm not seeing any sucess stories on here of people who managed to achieve this. Sure getting the add ons stopped and removed seems more than double but when its built into the price??? Anyone
  14. I'm really confused becuase if you remember my original post. The cover on my laptop is built into the price, not additional. hence the reason why I need help. How can you remove something that is built in? I took out my contract out prior to april 2015 so basically Im shafted.
  15. Yeh I think so I need to check the paper work for a definite answer. Thanks for the quick response any practical advice please?
  16. Bright house are now telling me that the additional service cover can not be stopped because it is built into the price of the laptop I bought. First off is this true, they are known for their bull****. Second if it is true what are my options? Do I have go down the small claims court route. Thanks people
  17. Dear Jason I have logged this for you under the reference: 257482, I kindly request that you contact our Customer Relations department on 0800 526 069 and quote the above reference so we can look into this further for you. I might have been a dumb *^#+^^* for buying something from BH but seriously do you honestly expect me to listen to one of your telephone [removed]/sales people try to convince me that black is white and that you'll give me a twenty pound voucher if I don't ask for all my money back?
  18. "incur costs which you will be liable" This is not only untrue its is purposely designed to threaten. That is why debt collectors are so careful to use the word 'may'.As in may incur costs, not you will incur costs.
  19. I just found this thread. http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?439121-new-to-reclaiming-BrightHouse-Charges-and-OSC-DLC Can someone confirm if it is straight forward to claim back OSC or if they will fight this in court?
  20. Hi Cagger's I know I've been very dumb I know it, anyway I bought something from Bright house last year and I was told if I did not have contents insurance I would have to take out the OSC. In fact I was dumb again the same year and bought something else and was told exactly the same thing. It is my intention to pay these items off and no longer use bright house. but I have since learnt that you can cancell the OSC at any time and I have already drafted a letter using a template from this site. However, I am reading conflicting information about getting a refund for the OSC I have already paid. Is it possible to have this refunded and applied to my account to reduce the amount I owe? I was clearly missold these items as I now understand the line about having contents insurance is bull****. Thanks people
  21. I am facing eviction and I am dealing with this but a letter from the management company has given me cause for concern. In an eviction letter there is a line 'Before we start court proceedings which incur costs which you will be liable.' I am used to dealing with Debt collectors and they usually insert the word 'MAY'. I believe this company have broken guidelines. I notice they also arrange finance so it would be fair to say they must be governed by consumer credit. In short I believe they have used threatening and misleading language and wondered if people agree with me. Thanks people. Also if this is the case who do I report this to to stop other people suffering the same threatening behavior.
  22. I qualify for a NHS glassses voucher and specsavers sent me a £40 off glasses voucher with their catalogue. Does anyone know if I can use this specsavers voucher with my NHS free glasses voucher? It says 'cannot be used with other offers', but I would argue the NHS voucher is not a special offer. Has anyone had experience with this? Thanks
  23. I live in Glasgow and for the past six weeks signing staff have had no access to universal jobmatch, I don’t know whether this is connected to the fact universal credit was rolled out six weeks ago. Maybe a friendly local whistle blower can provide details and confirm this. For me the past three signing sessions have gone back to pre-benefit reform days of signing taking less than four minutes, no difficult questions on my efforts to find work just sit down, sign and leave. I noticed I am not alone, I have witnessed other signers doing so as well. Today I bravely walked into the JCP having not spent the usual hour filling out my job searching activities on UJ, signed on and walked out. I did have a paper record in my pocket as a plan B but never needed it. If this helps someone out I’m just spreading the news, but please don’t rely on this info I would hate for someone to be sanctioned if your office staff do have access. I am slightly curious if this is a Glasgow thing and if so what is the reason being. Is there any friendly JCP staff who would care to comment? I do not condone or promote abusing the system but if it helps someone worried about sanctions this might help
