  1. Sorry for going in to so much detail but I think it is relevant. I tried several times without success to book myself on a speed awareness course. A message stated that as my course was to be taken very soon I needed to ring them. I tried to ring them several times but as I work during the day and the waiting time was so long I had to give up. I did finally get through to them only to be told that yes I was too late to go on a course. I was told to ring Go Safe, who have the responsibility for issuing NIPs and offering Speed Awareness Courses. I finally got through to Go safe and explained my situation. I was told that everything was fine and they could see no reason why I was not able to take a course. After double checking again I was assured that I should be able to get on a course if I ring them again. As I was about to end the call the lady at Go Safe said just let me check one last thing. I was then told that an error had been made and they had my final date to take the course down as 31/07/2018 and not 31/08/2018 and I only had 2 hours left to get on a course that had to be taken before 31/08/2018. I finally got myself onto a course in Telford 122 miles from my house as it was the only course available before 31/08/2018. I then recieved an email to say forget the 2 hours just do a course before the 31/08/2018 and the matter is closed. This is Go Safe sort of admitting responsibility for the error. My question is: Where do I stand on claiming travel for a 240 miles round trip for a course I could have taken a mile away from my house. Should I request an extension to allow me to go a a course nearer to home as the courses are done by the same people? Thanks in advance
  2. Hello, The landlords had started court proceedings for rent arrears, £3,500 although they have submitted incorrect amount to court I put in a defence providing as much info as I could & telling the court I was getting further legal advice. In the meantime I've sought legal advice from Which Legal who confirm that the landlords were in breach of Gas Safe Regs. I've then spoken to Gas Safe Register, I luckily got to speak to an Incident Investigator who said I must definitely report the landlords to HSE. We were in grave danger the entire time we lived at the property & the landlords failed to meet even the very basics of their legal obligations. The only reason there are rent arrears is because I became so ill I couldn't work for a year, still struggling now. Not sure what to do about this claim for rent arrears as I've been sent a Notice of Proposed Allocation to the Small Claims Track to be returned before 7th July. Which Legal can;t help as it's already at court, they told me to contact Shelter, Shelter say thay can't help any further because it's already at court?! Is there anything I can do? Get it delayed in any way? Should I update the court with the info that the landlords were in breach of Gas Safe Regs & further action is starting against them? What do you think would be the best way forward? Will I have to pay the arrears when the landlords were the cause of the arrears? I'd really appreciate any help or advice. Thank you reading my post
  3. I was in-between houses so I put my stuff in self-storage, then I lost my job. I have another job now, but I have arrears with the self-storage company. They keep slapping on approx. £25 every couple of weeks in late payment fess. They wont allow me to take my stuff out and come to some arrangement, they have changed the locks and my bill just gets higher and higher and whilst I can’t get my stuff out every week I get charged another week for storage I feel trapped in a vicious circle my bill just escalates and they rub their hands together when my stuff stays in storage for another week. Help
  4. Just after some information if possible. Last weekend my mother in laws house was broken into whilst they were away for the night. The burglars managed to bypass an alarm which was set and stole property. They managed to rip out a small electronic safe which was inside a cupboard and bolted to the wall. Although the safe was locked the theives had gained access to it without causing damage which surprised us and the police. Since then we have been made aware that there are several videos on the internet showing the exact make and design of safe and how to access it without any codes, keys or tools. The video simply shows a locked safe and someone banging the top of the safe whilst turning the access knob. After approx 5 knocks it opens easily. Although the safe was purchased some 13 years ago and no tracenof the receipt would they have any kind of claim against the manufacturer as the goods are not fit for purpose however this has only just come to light. There was £4500 cash in the safe at the time which was taken. Thanks
  5. I had a few personal accounts with NatWest with a few grand overdraft on each which I couldnt pay back. These accounts were eventually closed by the bank and are now in the hands of debt collection agency. I also have a business account with them which has no debt attached to it. A while back I stopped using my business account in case they took money out of that account to repay the overdraft and just used a basic personal account from a different bank for my business banking which really isnt ideal but helped me get through at the time. Im now wondering as I dont have good enough credit to open up a business account elsewhere if I can still use my NW business account without them taking money directly from it since the personal accounts are now closed and the debt passed to another company? What do you think?
  6. My brother sold a car part for £460. The part is a piggy back ECU which is quite rare. He told me that the buyer wanted to pay with a bank transfer to save on him getting fee's etc. My brother said the payment came through instantly and is coming up with something like "3rd party transfer" which we've not seen before. I told him I would check to see if this is safe, or if there is some sort of [problem] that involves doing direct transfers? The buyer is within the UK. Thanks!
  7. How safe are E-cigs ? Many countries have banned E-cigs, yet some people are calling for the NHS to provide them for free for those trying to give up smoking. I looked up information online, as i was surprised about reports that some countries banned E-cigs and I found it to be correct. Brazil and Singapore are just two countries that have banned them. If you are caught using them in Singapore you get an automatic $200 fine. There are multiple concerns about their safety from the batteries being a fire risk to the liquids available for the vaping. In many countries you cannot buy the liquids, because there are drug controls on niccotine being sold other than in a standard cigarette. I don't smoke, but i know many people who now use these E-cigs. I just wonder whether they are aware of there being issues with travelling to other countries with them.
  8. Child Identity Theft – How Safe is Your Child’s Identity ID theft is not just limited to adults. Children are just as much at risk of having their identity stolen. Unfortunately theft of a child’s identity can go undetected for years, which is why children can be a tempting target for identity thieves. In America, the Federal Trade Commission found children make up the fastest growing segment of identity theft victims.* The UK does not experience this crime to the same degree as our personal data is protected by the Data Protection Act 1998, however with the rise of social media children are increasingly susceptible in cyberspace. What is child identity theft? Child identity theft occurs when an identity thief steals a child’s personal details to commit fraud and other types of crimes. It is easy for criminals to set up new accounts as children tend to have clean credit records. This type of identity theft is not usually reported because parents have no suspicion their child’s identity has been taken let alone the child themselves which allows the criminal to use the information for many years. How do I know if my child’s identity has been compromised? Your child gets a bill for something they haven’t ordered. They get emails from an organisation they don’t recognise. They receive letters regarding government benefits or tax payments. They begin receiving credit applications and credit card and bank offers under his or her name. Your application to open a bank account for your child is denied due to poor credit history. What can my child do to protect him/herself when going online? Make sure you teach your child about privacy and that they aware of the information they must not reveal, such as name, address, phone number or school. Be careful of what they share online and with whom. Ensure they don’t accept friend requests from strangers on popular sites like Facebook and Twitter. If your child goes on chatrooms encourage them to stay anonymous as they may find themselves to talking to people they don’t know. What can I do to protect my child’s identity online? Check the privacy settings on any online social networking sites your child’s is signed up to and don’t forget to also check the device settings on smartphones or tablets that they may use. Monitor what information is being shared and made public through simply checking search engines for your child’s name. Be vigilant and monitor their social media and chatroom use, such as only allowing them to use it your presence and looking over the chat room before your child joins it. Block pop ups, to prevent your child being tempted to click on them and potentially release malicious software. If your child’s identity has been stolen they must change their passwords to any online sites immediately as well as any security questions. If they have become a victim of fraud report it to Action Fraud. http://www.blog.noddle.co.uk/child-identity-theft-how-safe-is-your-childs-identity/?utm_campaign=Noddle+Newsletter+100815&utm_source=emailCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=

  10. Seriously it is a bit of a long story so I will try and make it brief. I live in a lovely village in a block of one storey flats which were built in the 70's The landlord is a large housing association. A few years ago a majority of the flats started experiencing bad damp problems, mine included. The housing association maintained it was nothing more than condensation. However on the outside of the building large cracks started appearing and some walls are now at visible angles. They continually come round and re-point the cracks which now open up within a couple of weeks. This crack below started about two years ago on my outside wall. The bricks have moved about 3/4 inch in that time. You can see how much it has moved by the amount of extra pointing that has been added. This is just my outside wall but the building is similar in various other places. For about 12 months it has been almost impossible to get any unrelated repairs done. I have spoken to their surveyor who seemed quite evasive about the questions I asked about the subsidence. I asked if underpinning was a possibility and he said it couldn't be considered till the building stopped moving. Obviously my concern is if it keeps moving it will eventually collapse as these are supporting walls At least one person living on the first floor has vacated their flat and refusing to live in there till they have been satisfied the building is safe. I have even asked if there is a chance that the building may eventually need to be demolished which was laughed at by the surveyor and he said no chance. A few people own their flats and are finding them virtually impossible to sell. One chap bought his for 139k 3 years ago and now has it on the market for 110k, he is desperate. He has said many are pulling out because of surveyor reports but he didn't elaborate any further. I am not a builder and truthfully know nothing about building structures. But supporting walls moving at this rate is surely very concerning. Should I be worried?
  11. I need to open a safe bank account not connected to anyone I owe money to. I was thinking of Co-Op but I have no idea which banks are linked together these days. I have CC debts with MBNA, Bank of Scotland, Mint, Barclaycard and an overdraft with Nationwide Is Co-Op safe for me? Thanks in advance.

Comp is about 3 years old, have tried system restore but when it has finished it I get a message saying unknown error prevented it doing it.I found what I thought were the back up discs I got with it, tried them but it is still same, IT will not let me do a restore and I have not installed anything new.
  13. I'm just awaiting my creditors meeting for an IVA which is a couple of weeks and I have had lots of problems with PayDay loans trying to empty my account, although I have gotten all the money back off the bank. I've swapped most my income over to a new account but there is still a few that haven't happened as yet. My daughters DLA is due to go in tomorrow so I'm planning to stay up to safe guard the money and trasfter it to my other account as soon as it goes through. My question is what time do BACS payments go into your account? Is it midnight? Thanks M
  14. Hello out there, thanks for maintaining such a great forum - i was wondering if anyone would be able to lend their wisdom to my predicament. I recently found myself jobless and juggling a number of payday loans - in scrambling for work and having no sociable hours to work with my payday loan providers i approached Debt Reverse - and established a DMP - the first payment has yet to be made but i'm hesitant to send it as despite DebtRev' describing a 'good working relationship' with my payday lenders, i have still received incessant contact from them ( i'm told this is all normal ahead of the first payments being made as part of the DMP - and i do expect something of it from the payday sharks - but the additional costs i've incurred in this period seem ludicrous) i have even had to send a token payment outside of the DMP myself to one lender? as instructed by DebtRev'.. . They are otherwise very curtious and allways at the other end of the phone but ahead of making my first payment to them i was looking for some insight from you guys and girls, i find it hard to place stock in 5 star reviews i find online... Many thanks for any info you can provide!
