just out of interest what was there reason for refusing the refund in store? ie had you opened the console etc

Playstations and all other games consoles are exempt from the 30 day money back guarantee, as such are generally non-refundable unless faulty.

Unfortunately the store got confused, as the Distance selling regulations would have allowed for a refund in this case.

If an item is exempt from the money back guarantee, they can refuse a refund if it is unopened, unused etc (not affecting statutory rights).

Tbh the staff were just being dumb, have not read up enough on consumer law, and the law needs to change alot how retailers sell things.
