Talk about the left arm not knowing what the right arms doing..I wrote a demand letter to Barclays regarding my partners recent charges. Not much a few hundred quid ..but enough to make the blood boil.

I copied my letter to both Anita Hicks and the Retail Banking Centre in Leicester.

On Thursday we had a goodwill offer from Hicks offering a 50% refund..providing we accepted it in full and final settlement..which of course I ignored.

This morning we had a letter from the Customer Relations Centre advising her that all the charges had been recredited to the account!

It was accompanied by the "goodwill gesture" proviso, but more interestingly the comment " the Paid Referral Fee is now part of our standard tariff and it represents an " at the time charge" which is automatically generated when an account goes overdrawn or exceeds an agreed overdraft limit. The fee is applied overnight and debits the customer's account the following working day"

Not seen that explanation written down before? So much for the "manual intervention" argument..unless of course its the tooth fairy that does the job for Barclays in the wee hours..!!

Hi BankFodder

I cannot easily scan the letter as it contains other personal stuff she doesn't want disclosed ..sorry. It also runs to 2 pages so can't top and tail.

I will cut and paste the relevant bit so its on record. I will of course be keeping the original for future reference.
