Firstly can I mention how pleased I was to find this site. I have been trying to recover unreasonable charges from the Halifax since last November. Until I found this site I didnt realise that I maybe able to recover the last 6 years worth of charges!!!

Last November, I contacted the complaints department requesting re-imbursement of more than £600 worth of charges. They refused but as a gesture of goodwill agreed to refund £93, but only after I had returned the account to credit. They confirmed this to me in writing. The account was returned to credit within 2 weeks.

As of today, I am still trying to persuade the Halifax to re-imburse me the £93 they promised. My telephone conversation with themtoday has had no luck and they maintain that they never wrote to me, despite the fact I gave them the name of the signatory, the date and the reference of the letter. I now intend to pursue the full 6 years worth of charges which is substantial. Will le tyou know how i get on.

Similar thing has happened to my son. I wrote a letter for him to sign requesting the charges back quoting references etc and they agreed. They said the credit would be on his statement in Feb. He gets his cc statement and guess what? no credit  So have written another letter today stating how dissapointed he is to see they havent followed through with their agreemnet and that i trust this will be rectified within 7 days. I had a funny feeling we'd have to fight for it after reading a similar post on money saving expert.com a while back.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well after faxing a copy of their letter offering me a refund of 3 charges, I received a telephone call from them today claiming they have no record of their own letter and no record on my account notes for refunding.

I have asked her to confirm this in writing. I feel sure this will help my case when I put the last 6 years worth of charges into the small claims court.

I really am astonished that even after writing to me they now deny that they ever sent the letter!!! Incredible.

I am only surprised that there are any persons left who would express surprise at actions taken (or not)_ by the halifax. They have become an absolute shower since demutualising and need hitting hard to learn that we the people will not stand to be bullied or intimidated. Subscribers to sites like this are a start but we need to actively promote our rights and take responsibility for fighting back. Power to the people.
