Hi all, just got letter from abbey's solicitors confirming settlement for 2700

in paid charges. To cut a long story short, I initially filed on nov 19 , claiming back all paid charges for the last two years totalling 2738.88 inc interest. Abbey responded 09/12/2005 saying they intended to defend the entire claim.

on 9 jan 2006 got letter offering 50/50/ settlement, I respond saying no , but will settle for 2700 in reutrn for prompt payment.

18 jan got letter confirming 2700 to be paid.

I hope this offers some confidence to those thinking about or currently takin court action. While I am here I would like to say that at the time I was having difficulty financially and incurring these charges, abbey's local branch (bridgwater , somerset) were totally uninterested in offering any type of help and the attitude of the manager and counter staff was to look down their noses and wash their hands of the situation. They are some of the thickest and most incompetent drones I have ever had the misfortune to come across. Now that the boot is on the other foot , I would love to see the look on the manager' s face  when I stand outside the branch handing out copies of the letter from their own solicitor paying me back ALL of the charges that a year ago she told me were abbey's god given right to apply!!!!

With all of these good stories - your's and the Nationwide elsewhere, I think that the Bank Action Group may as well pack up and go home! 8)

they filed a defence with the court , interestingly it is word for word the same as the defence filed in the cases of several other people who have been through the process. We could assume that abbey's current strategy in these cases is to try and play for time as much time as possible in an attempt to first scare off people and then negotiate right up to the wire before coughing up in the face of having a court ruling against them.

Jonny

I tried to send you an email but it seems to have been undeliverable. Did you get it?

Can you please contact me so that we can put together a press release about your case.

Great idea about standing outside the bank handing out letters. I am planning some similar direct action in a few weeks (after I have left my present job and I will have more time and no compunction about being seen doing it).

If you are planning to put together a press release we would be most grateful if you could post it here. Publicity is important in the early stages of a group like ours; please don't cut us out.

Congratulations on your victory, we hope it's one of many.

Bob, can you also let us know if you would like us to put other board members who score victories like this in touch - we might also put up a section purely for press releases.

PMs get through but will only be seen by a user on their next visit. We are not sure whether email informing a user they have a PM or a topic answer gets through as the system for informing our board users of this is entirely automatic, and doesn't return a bounce notice to an address where it can be seen.

We have no idea if Johnypoo is receiving personal email but no doubt he'll see your offer on his next visit.
