I know there's a lot of things we'd like to suggest to our banks, a lot of them unprintable, but I am going to draft a letter to Natwest - my bank - of useful suggestions that could aid the consumer. I'd like to know if any of you have any suggestions.

Maybe the letter could come from the site, or all us Natwesties could send a copy, or all us Natwesties could sign the letter and send it to head office. Either way, I'm drafting one.

Maybe some of you would like to start threads entitled "Suggestions to [name of your own bank]".

Serious suggestions only please and preferably very specific.

My first suggestion is this: Our statements arrive with 2 pages - a statement and a summary. Neither of these show my overdraft limit. I think this should be clearly printed somewhere, maybe close to the final balance on the statement so that it can be easily seen how near to your overdraft limit you were at that date on the statement.

Sorry, but we also get every month a "pre-charges advice sheet", and that clearly shows the o/d limit. I think that a once a month reminder would be considered to be a reasonable reminder, and unlikely to prompt a change from them.

If you're not getting any charges do you still get this sheet?

If the limit was displayed close to the balance on the statement I think it would be more useful.

Whilst I would agree in principle that some things could be improved I worry a little bit about including too much information in one envelope. These things do have a habit of walking occasionally.

I don't know, I've never had "no charges", lol.

But they also notify you of the interest they pay you when in credit, you know, that 0.001 you get for lending them £ 2000 every month, and I think that comes on the same sheet, yes.

Taking charges for failed DDs, SOs, etc a couple of weeks after you incur the charges, sending you letters for each charge, so you know it's coming.

Sending letters or emails a few days in advance, warning you that your balance is not sufficient to cover standing orders/direct debits due on specific dates, allowing you to actually put more money in so you can cover them.

DPA Letter received by NatWest 11/04/2006

DPA Request expires 21/05/2006

Statements received 15/05/2006

LBA sent 15/05/2006
