so i am buying a new laptop. the one i have selected is only available form comet or woolworths (not pcworld, not currys or dixons). comet is easier for me than woolies and its cheaper on comet so im going for buying it form them. i want extended warranty, i had it for the last laptp i bought (form pcworld) and that machine has been to be repaired 6 or more times in the almost for years i have had it. i have been happy wiht pc worlds policy and never had any problems getting them to repair faults or accidental damage. so is comets extended warranty 1. a good buy, 2. worht the money? 3. anything else i should consider? i believe as it is a hp model i could also buy the hp care package direct fomr hp, has anyone any experiance of it? is it a better or worse product than comets? any other ways of getting an extended warranty i should consider? thanks

Always check through the terms and conditions of extended warranties, as often they are a waste of money.

Remember you have rights under the Sale of Goods Act which can be pursued for up to six years if the fault isn't just normal wear and tear or caused by the consumer.

Some extended warranties offer you no better than your statutory rights. If it only covers repair, it's not worth the money, in my opinion.

Please note I'm not insured in this capacity, so if you need to, do get official legal advice.

  • 1 month later...

Comets insurance normally covers New for Old replacement unlike some that offer you a refurbished item as a relacement like HP and IBM, Currys. Also covers Accidental Damage.

Remebering from my Laptop Insurance with Comet. I just took it into my local store and they sent it away for me to Acer. Got confirmation it was kaput then waited a few days and got letter from insurance policy saying to go pick a new one for £XXX or have same one. Also meant no paying out of any excess or pay and claim back repair. Better than house insurance as theres no premium increase each year if you do make a claim.

If you dont take out there policy Domestic & General normally send out a yearly one to you just before your product is 12 months old.

If you do decide to go the way of Comets Insurance..... Only get the 3 year policy as laptops change so fast now.

Hope this helps, if not just ignore me ;)

Mike
