Hi all,

I was caught not scanning an avocado in Sainsbury's, and banned from the store (and any other Sainsbury's in the country).

I have done this a fair few times before in this store (only with loose produce so never very expensive items, but obviously it adds up)

- I have no excuse, other than not having much money and convincing myself a few vegetables don't matter to such a big corporation as Sainsbury's.

I immediately confessed what I'd done and they let me go without calling the police but I'm worried they might check CCTV and see I'm a repeat offender.

The man who stopped me was so threatening/angry with me that it made me think he'd seen me do it before potentially? He didn't say this, however.

I know what I did was wrong and it's safe to say I will never do it again. I feel terrible and am scared/nervous of further action.

1) Is it possible they can pinpoint my Smart Shops (the Sainsbury's shopping app connected to my Nectar) from the past few months and check CCTV from that time to see that I have indeed done this multiple times before? I know they're meant to delete CCTV footage after 31 days, unless they see suspicious activity, so is it possible they could have kept previous footage of me shoplifting?

2) Is it worth me calling the number on the letter they gave me and asking them to appeal the decision? I don't want to go back into that specific store, but am worried as I work as an assistant and sometimes get asked to go and buy things in the Sainsbury's below my office... so being banned from every Sainsbury's permanently wouldn't be ideal. Has anyone ever had experience/success appealing the ban?

Thanks in advance, would really appreciate any advice - I know what I have done is wrong already so please try not to have a go at me too much - I feel immensely vulnerable and unhappy with myself already
