Hello

I accidentally walked out of John Lewis with a bag of items.

I also had an item in the bag that I had forgotten to pay for from M&S.

It has been one of those days...

the security guard took me to the back, took my photo, address etc - and gave me a letter with a lifetime ban.

He also saw the M&S item and kept that, saying he would return it there.

I am so petrified.

Will he be in touch with M&S and they will check their CCTV and see that I did not pay for that either?

I would like to contact John Lewis to try to get the lifetime ban overturned, as we rely on Waitrose for our food shop as it is close to us.

I would be so grateful for any advice and reassurance

- I am so petrified that they will escalate matters.

Thank you

Hello, welcome to CAG. I've moved your thread to our Retail Loss Prevention forum for further advice.

One of the first things we ask people is if there's a reason in your life that made you behave like this? Forgetting to pay in two shops in a row is unusual. If there's something going on that"s an underlying reason then we suggest a chat with your GP who won't judge you.

Thank you for the quick reply.

I had my headphones on and was in a world of my own- but yes, I think I need to, it has really worried me.

I get incredibly distracted and forgetful when shopping like this - and need to make sure it never happens again - especially as I also fear that this may have happened previously.

The lesson is well and truly learnt.

Has anyone ever had any experience of the shops checking back over CCTV?

I would also like to appeal the lifetime ban - as it was an honest mistake.

Has anyone experience of this, or may it 'prod the bear'?

In our opinion they rarely go back over CCTV, I don't ever remember seeing that on CAG.

It sounds though as if you need to address why this is happening to you because any further incidences could become problematic. Perhaps not wearing the headphones would be helpful to your concentration?

I don't know if John Lewis would tell Waitrose about the shoplifing, maybe someone else does. And I'm not sure I'd be asking to have the lifetime ban reversed, as you say it could stir things up. We normally recommend to wait a few months before going back to the store and of course, making sure that nothing untoward happens when you return.

another shop wont know a thing about it.

and no we've never seen and they are not ever interested in wasting staff time watching hours of CCTV simply to catch a forgetful 2 time non payer.

forget about it, go get yourself sorted

just stay out of that one store for a while.

if you get any scary letters from the likes of RLP/DWF harking on about fake civil recovery costs, you ignore them totally.

simply scammers that try and fleece you.

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...
