I don't know the answer – but hopefully someone will step up and who does know the answer. However I can scarcely imagine that they're not taxable as income. For instance, if you are in receipt of these grants and then things went back to sort-of-normal before the end of the tax year and you started making money again, I can't imagine that you won't be taxed on the sum total of your receipts for that year
