Stolen, Recovered - how to reject

16 weeks ago my Audi S3 was stolen after being broken into during the night and the keys being taken.  To add insult to injury this was a car I was literally about to sell in order to save some money!

The car was missing just under 4 weeks and while the insurance had made an offer, settlement had not been reached when the car was found and as such they withdrew the offer.

 

After inspection a report was submitted to the insurance underwriters quoting considerable repair costs for body and interior repairs including a full respray, new wheels and tyres and re-trimming of the seats,  which equated to 62.41% of PAV.  Furthermore suspension inspection then identified further repairs to be added to that bill.

 

Despite such a high cost of repair and my making it very clear that I did not want the vehicle back the insurers authorised the repairs and time and time again have avoided answering me as to why it was not deemed as a total loss claim.

Finally now some 13 weeks after being found I am told the car is almost ready for collection but I really don't want it back.

 

The time the car has been missing has cost me a further £2000 in finance payments on a car I was about to sell and I am sure trying to sell it once returned is going to be both difficult and costly as I am a certain no one will be offering even close to market value for it despite being "immaculate" thanks to being flagged as Stolen & Recovered .. 

 

.. so my question is very simple .. Is there any way I can still reject the car?

I bought a stolen and recovered golf once and it had been fix a vw and fully repainted.

I sold it with tears a couple of years later because I needed a bigger car.

I didn't lose any money on it.

But did you buy it at a price lower than other cars in the first place because it was stolen and recovered?

No, i paid more than market value because lots of parts had been replaced from vw and it was fully resprayed.

New rims and tyres, new radiator, water pump and cambelt, all other belts, most of the front suspension parts, new front seats, etc.

It was a bargain nonetheless,  cruised through the mot both times.

Insurers are there to put you back where you would have been, not to guess what your intentions are or might have been.

As for the finance payments-I think that is where you have been robbed
