Council leader John Clancy said: “We ending the use of bailiffs for those in receipt of council tax support. This will ease the pressure on a lot of lower income families in Birmingham.

Now how hard was that to do! Differentiating between the won't pays and the can't pays cannot be any simpler and Birmingham Council should be congratulated for bringing the collection of Council tax back in house.

Hopefully other councils will follow suit. Being able to see who is on benefit will help.

What is happening is that Birmingham are stopping using Capita as their 'outsourcing' partner.

They are still going to be using bailiffs. However, anyone with a Liability Order who is in receipt of council tax support, will be dealt with in-house.

I will post more details later today.

The article suggests that the whole enforcment has been taken back in house.

I should say that whatever way they have done this, i hope it is rolled out across the country ASAP.

Hopefully they have realised that doing it the Capita way is of no real benefit to them.
