Hey

I have been reading up a lot of about IPTV subscriptions and boxes

Many of the "illegal" claims seem to be from companies such as sky or virgin media, but many other independent review websites advise it is 100% legal

Could it be companies like Virgin and sky are claiming it to be illegal to warm some people off using them

What is the REAL legal view on this, I am thinking it is legal as ebay are duty bound to remove anything that is breaking the law

No its not sadly

Selling the stuff is OK

Its what you do with it

That's how its on eBay

But if you pop off to say a site like worldofdigital

There's everything there

You can also use vlc player or akin

To do it without a box

These media streaming devices can just as easily be used for legal content which is why they are readily available however, many people use them to watch or download unlawful content.

You will notice on some listings that the seller assumes no responsibility for what you use the boxes for.

They can be used for legit purposes. But if they have kodi or plex on them, then its pretty obvious theyre using it illegally. Thats why the people that sell them offer 'subscriptions' to their own streams and dont include them with the box.

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

That is a pretty big brush to tar the users with. I have a couple of devices with Kodi installed and have yet to find any streams to watch illegally. I'm sure that if I were to come across any, it would be just as easy to use a Windows app.

That said, if you are watching any pay-per-view content without paying for it, then you would be in breach of several laws regardless of what software you are using.

One more thing to add: Several of the Kodi plugins are broken and/or very susceptible to breakages if/when the content provider changes things their end. The original BBC iPlayer plugin has been broken for quite a while and is unlikely to be fixed. I haven't tested its replacement yet (iPlayer WWW), but it looks to be working at present.

I had been offered a full package, subscription, box ect as a all in one, that is the main reason I started the thread, they claim to have their own servers for streaming things like BT sport, sky sport and movie channels

It's the plugIns that make it illegal. Kodi itself is just a media player.
