I am waiting on surgery and it has been over 6 months and the hospital have said that my surgery date is not even on the horizon. I asked if I am covered on the 18 week rule and they said yes but that they are not meeting that target.

Am I right that I can insist that they pay for me to have the surgery privately?

We don't have the 18 week rule in Wales but there's an excellent guide to it here:

In my own experience contacting the consultant's secretary and making sure they know you're happy to be seen on short notice usually works well. I recently got the 'call' on the Tuesday afternoon and was in theatre on Friday morning after someone cancelled.

My views are my own and are not representative of any organisation. if you've found my post helpful please click on the star below.
