Look out ! Microsoft shifts Windows 10 to ‘Recommended’ update, automatic download

Microsoft has been increasingly aggressive in its attempts to push consumers to download Windows 10. Starting today, the company is upping the ante once again. As of now, Windows 10 is now classified as a “Recommended” update, which means many Windows 7 and 8.1 users will download and begin the installation automatically.

 

By default, Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 shipped with updates enabled and a second box — “Give me Recommended updates the same way I receive important updates” checked as well. Plenty of users have changed these settings, but you can bet millions of people haven’t. We’ve written before about the power of defaults, and in this case, leaving automatic updates on has been a good idea for many users.

Yes noticed this one as well, Microsoft are also saying Windows 7 and 8 will not be fully supported on Intel's latest Skylake processors also.

MS are stopping support for 7 and 8 anyway. Theyre pushing win 10 out and tbh it needs a bit more time to cook

I am not very happy with Windows 10 - I have to google or ask someone, pretty much every time I want to use something to find out where it has been hidden.

It's ok, I found how to do it

I like Windows 10 - it made an older laptop far more useable and solved a lot of driver mismatch problems that laptop had. I only update mine as and when, some of the updates have nothing to do with what I am using.

I have switched automatic updates off, on OH's system - If I can work out how to use the new system, pretty certain he wouldn't cope

Plenty of apps and shortcuts on win 10 to various settings. Even the godmode setting

Good option that, only issue is by now many people even those on a data cap will have had Windows 10 all 6 Gb or so downloaded in the bacckground with an impact on their data allowance taking some over their limit..
