I think they are unloading past accounts onto a DCA like motormouth, or motormouth returned the account back to them

The account has been marked as settled/closed, not defaulted so i think this might be sour grapes

It is in the closed account section of my credit file

IMHO, it should not have appeared anywhere on your file. It was dead and buried after 2014, and would have dropped off your file in 20013 anyway. There is no reason at all to enter it on your file and I would be having a gripe with both their Head office and the Information Commissioner.
