I can never understand why people stress about some prisoners being able to vote. If we want them to be rehabilitated, then why not give them the right to vote towards the end of their sentence. The ECHR have only said some prisoners should be able to vote and this is being used by some to justify the UK withdrawing from ECHR.

Does not make any sense to me. We have enough problems getting people to vote !

We could do with some help from you.

Can you just imagine a prospective candidate going to their local prison touting for votes :!:

My own opinion is that when someone commits a crime that involves a prison sentence, they have removed themselves from society and all the benefits therein. I would have thought that the better way would be to allow those coming towards the end of their sentences be allowed the right to vote as a way of integrating them back into society.

Some people are anti anything that has the word Europe attached to it ! If the ECHR was renamed as the world court of Human Rights and Strasbourg was just the local court that was linked to others around the world, then I don't think there would be the same argument being held.

We could do with some help from you.

Silverfox does make a good point.

Part of me does think it does depend on the crime. I mean, someone who has been given a whole life sentence for murder, I don't think should have the right to vote. But if you commit a "minor" crime which means your sentence is say, a few months, then I do think you shouldn't lose your right to vote.

I agree with this.
