Re: Able Group Plumbing Work Help

 

Interesting to see the comments on Able Group.

My daughter is in a flat in London. We had a problem with the flush and I contacted Able.

They arranged for someone to visit a couple of days later. He spent 10 mins in the flat and said that he needed a part. We paid £72 plus VAT for this 10 mins.

Two weeks later and in spite of my daughter calling a couple of times we had not been contacted by the plumber so I chased Able. They said they would call me back. They didn't. I chased again and was then told that the plumber's van is off the road. Fine, but why did he just leave us not knowing what the position. I find that hopeless.

I have chased Able again and have now been told that the plumber believes that we need a new cistern and the charge will be £150 for a new cistern and up to £140 to fit it (up to 1.5 hours). When he left my daughter he said the cost would be £60!

Needless to say, I'm not using Able to do the work!

 

 

Hi folks, this is in response to the above which I saw in an old thread for Able group.

 

The reason I have quoted the above is because I have just experience a similar issue, if not worse.

 

Back in December the boiler in our flat spring a small leak. Call Able, an Eng came out, credit card details given, call out charge taken then he says it needs this and that. he was told to proceed, as it was urgent and he then spends 3 hrs working on the boiler. He hands over a bill for £270 which is is then deducted immediately from my card. He then stated he needed to come back with a new thermostat, which he then popped out to get......never saw him again. Like the above, the excuses then followed that his van was off the road etc etc... We have called ABLE many times to ask them to resolve the issue but we are still waiting. Now they say they dont have another engineer and we should contact someone ourselves. WTF????

 

This group are a [problem]. Something needs to be done.

 

What can be done? This will happen to many others unless they are exposed.

 

Any help or advice welcome.

Yes, that's them.

 

I've written to them and lodged a formal complaint....no answer. Called them at least 25 times but you just get the front end buffers who read their usual script of excuses to you. Pointless.

 

My fault for paying up front, but they are abosluely at it.

 

Beware.

 

I will try trading standards now.

I have posted this on the other Able thread as well.

 

I think that there is basis here for claiming from the company. I am quite sure that a judge would accept that the the payment was in fact an initial payment in a larger contract to return and finish the job and then charge the full price .

 

I think that it needs a letter terminating the contract and asking for a refund giving 14 days if this does not happen. I estimate chances of success in court at better than 95%.

Chances that they would settle before trial - better than 80%

I suppose that the Able Group must have hundreds of satisfied customers - but it certainly has a lot of unsatisfied ones as well.

 

It seems to me that they are so big that they are not really able to monitor the quality of their workers and their customer services system doesn't seem to work too well.

 

Looking around, they seem to charge very high prices, take a deep cut from the money taken by their engineer and also take a cut from the price of any materials as well.

Personally I would be making a chargeback on the credit card for my money back under S75.
