I sent this to Forces War Records:

"Forces War record"

"Thanks for taking money from my credit card without Authorization.

The original “come-on” was “download forces war record for 99p

After 10 days you would lose database access, if not renewed.

I did not agree to any TERMS to continue.

By default a profile was set up which included “auto renew my subscription” box.

By default this box was ticked.

Cash sums were illegally removed from my credit card.

I feel that I must warn other people of this [problem], especially Old Age Pensioners who try to find out about their war friends.

Unless you are street wise you will lose over £100 per year every year."

They make up your profile after giving them 99p for 1 download using a credit card.

Some time later you get a email saying your access will stop after 10days.

By default a box is ticked by them to say "automatic renew membership"

nearly £10 pounds is taken from your credit card every month.

By this time you have forgotten all about the site and think it's been cancelled.

Only checking Credit Card Statements reveal the deficit.

CPAs can be stopped by informing the bank, but stopping Forces Records may be a lot harder.:mad2:

so there isn't actually any issue

other than you failed to untick the renewal box?

dx

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

You must have given them your bank details.

You have to pay the 99p by credit/debit card, conniff - they just take from that.

That's right, once they have your credit card details + email + log-on, password ( you have to give this for 1 download) a profile is set up.

There is also a one-off £5 for 1 month, after this £8.95 is automatically taken from you credit card - this is like a standing order. At no point is it made clear this is happening.

You now have full membership whether you like it or not.

It is possible to untick "auto" box if you find it.

The Company behind FWR do not have a phone number. or email that works.

Everything has to be done via "support"

After looking into this "deception" I found flaws in the system:

"The only fee I have seen from FWR is £5: this was on email dated 1/5/2014 to xxxx.xxxxx.com.

I did not take up an EXTENDED OPTION of £8.95 at that time, or any other time.

I should have unticked auto box on recurrring subscriptions.

FCA conc 7.6b regulations clearly state "with consent of customer"

Consumer Protection Regulation 2000 states:

The legislation provides rights to the consumer and obligation which the seller(FWR) must fulfill

Information to be communicated before contract formation:- description of service, the cost, how payment should be made, notification of the right of cancellation, how long the contract will last.

The information must be made clear and comprehensible reg 8.....using a default set up by FWR as a positive is not clear, and only shown on profile.

The key word is consent.

Cancellation

If the supplier has not provided the consumer with all the required information, the consumer has the automatic right to rescind the contract within three months and seven days

CPAs can now be cancelled direct with the bank."

This was sent to "support"

I was refunded half of my money.
