Hi all,

I've finally managed to get my dad to have a look into PPI on his past finances. He only agreed to do so if i did it all for him.

Now I've been looking on this site and it seems I need, a covering letter,

to fill out the financial-ombudsman consumer questionnaire

and all the statements and agreements of the finance.

I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me/send me a link to a template for the covering letter.

I've already got the questionnaire from the ombudsman website so I'm ok there.

Now my dad says he has all the paperwork and I sort of believe this because he's really good for keeping things for records.

lastly it looks like I need to calculate how much he should be owned,

I've seen the spreadsheets on this site. I am not good when it comes to numbers,

is there any simpler ways to go about it or can anybody maybe help me workout how to use it?

As always any help will be much appreciated

Thanks

Andrew

If it helps in anyway, most of his finance was with Halifax, there was a repayment mortgage that lasted about 18months, credit cards and a few loans.

Hi,

Regarding the covering letter, something along the lines of............

"I believe I was mis-sold the PPI policies attached to the loan ( or credit card) and I enclose completed questionnaires for each.

I look forward to your response as soon as possible and certainly with the permitted 8 weeks for you to resolve this complaint"

I'm not to great at the calculations either, hopefully you'll get some help shortly with that.

Regards,

Scott.

Hi Scott,

Thank you for your reply, I will use that for the template.

I wouldn't of asked but it looks like no one is really at the beginning of there claim, most seem halfway so there wasn't much to go on.

Just out of curiosity should i send a SAR anyway?

I know my dad thinks he has everything,

but even just for future claims because I might be young but I'm sure the banks are going to sell something they shouldn't again at some point.

Would be good to have everything they have if it's every needed again hey.

Hi,

Yes, with the SAR they should send you everything they have on you, well everything you ask for.

I'd say it's worth the £10 fee as you say for future reference.

Thanks for the quick reply Scott,

Well if it's only £10 it can't hurt to send one. I'll use a postal order though, I don't send anything else in the mail, better to be save then sorry and all that.

So which SAR should i use? looks to be a lot in the library.

Thanks

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Forget the SAR I suggested and now removed.

I find it always best to get as much info as you can

even if you already have it or may have it.

it adds ;weight' to a claim, if, say, you include say a CD of all the docs you relly upon in a PPI claim.

that way they've got nothing to 'wriggle over' if they say

this and that we have not got proof of

you've already sent them a copy of the docs you rely upon for the PPI claim.

as for the spread sheets

its very easy to do

and the sheets do the work for you.

all you need to do is put in each date PPI was charged.

that might need a simple calculation that we can help with

or if you are that way minded

read link 1 below.

as for the SAR

use the click link above.

you don't want to 'tip the company off'

theres a claim coming

as they might make information outside of 6yrs 'disappear' magically/.

take your time

there is no rush

theres no time limit on PPI claims no matter what you read elsewhere.

whilst on the subject of 'elsewhere'

NEVER use a claims company

theres no need

they have no more clout than you

and typically you can lose almost 50% of your claim

for something you can do for FREE yourself

keep us informed.

another tip:

I always find it better to use ONE reason only for the miss-sale

using a scattergun approach of many reasons why the PPI was mis-sold

tends to allow them to wriggle out of the claim.

you can always bring in the other reasons at a later date.

Would agree with DX - simple covering letter and completed FOS form with a clear and precise reason for mis-sale - but if two reasons then state them both clearly so no wriggle room.

I have done the calcs before claim and indicate to them I am aware of what it should be - Halifax is Lloyds so a bit slippery when doing refunds.

Hi xd100uk,

So you'd say the best course of action is to send the SAR first, then after I get all the information back to just send the covering letter and financial-ombudsman consumer questionnair?

Also what address should I send the SAR to? I know its Halifax registered office, but I don't know how to find that address.

I'd think it would be the Lloyds Banking Group address.

Registered Office

THE MOUND

EDINBURGH

EH1 1YZ

There seems to be a few addresses for them.

You could give them a phone and ask... Halifax Customer Enquiries: 0845 739 4959

I've had a look around this site and I keep seeing this address.

Headquarters

Trinity Road

Halifax

West Yorkshire

HX1 2RG

Do you think I should send me SAR there? Because like xd said I don't want to tip them off about why I want all the information.

Thanks

Andrew

I honestly don't think it'll matter a lot, they all seem to end up in the correct department.

I'm going to go with this address for the SAR:

Headquarters

Trinity Road

Halifax

West Yorkshire

HX1 2RG

I'll start going through the information my dad has and type up the financial-ombudsman questionnaire and input the charge dates into the spreadsheet.

I'll upload a copy of how I've done on the questionnaire and spreadsheet soon, Thanks for the help.

I'll be sending it tomorrow so I've dated the letter 17/11/2014. I've put the letter in my dads name and will be using a postal order as my dad doesn't have a checkbook anymore.

Thanks

Hi all again,

Had a letter from Halifax, it was dated 20/11/2014 and I got it on the 22/11/2014.

It said thank you for contacting us, they've received the £10 fee and said they have started requesting information on all accounts. It will be sent on or before the 30th December 2014.

It's also said if there are joint accounts and only one party has signed, that the other party will need to send written authority within the next 7 days quoting the DSAR Ref number.

Now it is a joint account with my dad and mum so can someone give me a template for an authority letter? because I'd like to get the letter sent off tomorrow.

I'll upload the letter also encase I've missed something.

Many Thanks

Andrew

Has anyone found themselves in the same situation? I can't seem to find any authority letters anywhere on this website.

Can anyone please make a template or advice me on how to type one.

Many Thanks

Andrew
