This is becoming a major way of committing fraud. Someone sets up a company with a premium rate line number, makes loads of system generated phone calls pretending to be dealing with whatever services they say they are and in return generate millions of pounds worth of phone revenues. This is why so many people report not being able to speak to anyone if they call back. I am on TPS and still receive calls from these people. I have had answerphone messages saying phone number 08xxxxxxxxxxx to claim the £1000 that is owed to you by the government. Or other messages, which tempt people to call them back.

If you get a call from these numbers, don't even pick up the call. If you answer the call, I have a feeling that there is a chance of having a long expensive call. Message saying dial 1 to stop calls from this number or 3 if you want to speak to an agent probably just confgures their system to lock in the phone call to your number or you redial to premium rate line.

Suggest that you report this to Action Fraud, get a reference number and continue your complaint, going to the relevant ombudsman if necessary. Vodaphone should be looking into this properly.

We could do with some help from you.

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

  • 1 year later...

Yesterday my service with Vodafone was suspended as there was £114 outstanding on my account. I called them offering to pay this and the next bill by debit card and give the card details when the June bill became due on 22 June, but they said the service would be suspended until the current balance was paid.

I have been late in paying the account for the last 10 months as there were always more important bills to pay. However, I have been charged £60 in late fees and admin fees for this. The one month I wasn't charged a fee, last January, they charged me £13 for 3

I am normally less than a month late in paying but a few months back, they decided play catch up for me and duplicated a card payment a couple of days later. If I decided to charge a client's card twice, even if they had invoices outstanding, there would be hell to pay, but for Vodafone it's ok? Of course, they said I had called to make another payment, but could not provide any recorded evidence.

I got my bank to charge it back, knowing I would have to pay it shortly, but such action really p*ss*d me off.

Anyway, I have made the last few payments giving them card details in advance of an arranged date to pay, and all of these have been honoured.

I tried to do this yesterday, but to clear the whole balance on 22 June and spoke to 2 really nice Vodafone employees but "computer says no" was the answer.

I need a mobile as does my husband and have a couple of handsets we've unlocked and applied for GiffGaff SIM cards.

It's a shame Vodafone take sucj a short sighted approach.
