Apologies if this in the wrong place - perhaps somebody could move it if it isn't?

I just got a copy of my credit report for the first time ever through equifax, as I inexplicably got rejected for a new phone contract.

I was expecting only to see on my file; my current account, pay monthly mobile phone and credit card - all of which I pay on time religiously.

To my horror, when I opened up the report it had 2 DEFAULTED accounts on there that do not belong to me!

Now,

I live in an apartment block with around 100 flats In it.

The apartments are not individually registered with Royal Mail for whatever reason.

So when you pop the postcode in anywhere it only comes up with the name of the block,

and all the mail gets sorted by the concierge.

I was talking to the concierge about this and discovered that the two defaulted accounts were under the name of another resident in the block

- and have discovered that he shares the same first name and Date of Birth as me.

I've raised a dispute with equifax, along the lines that the accounts are nothing to do with me

and they said it will take up to 28 days for them to have a look into it!

Is this right?

Surely they're breaching DPA by getting my data entangled with another person's?!

Can anybody offer some advice?

Many thanks in advance.

you might also need to take this up with the named creditor.

typically, the cra files simply post what they are given info on

with only basic checks

thus it might well be down to the creditor.

yes you are ofcourse right they should not be there mind!.

dx

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...
