Opened a flex plus account May 2013 with a £10 a month charge for added extras.

With an agreed overdraft facility for 3 months. I began to try and close this account about 6 months ago. Each time I tried to close this account, bringing the balance back to £0, I was prevented from doing so as they told me a should wait for ongoing pending charges to be applied to the account.

On several occasions I have paid these charges and on these occasions bought the balance back to £0. Then requested the closure of the account and I was told, again, I must wait for more pending charges to come out.

I have only used this account twice and that was within the first 3 months.

No one has offered me at any time a simple solution to this ongoing problem to close the account and after even speaking to nationwide flex plus helpline and coming to an agreement as to how to close and to not receive any further charges, I discovered at branch level, I was still going to be left with yet more charges and the inability to close the account.

Someone please help me...

You might need to make a formal complaint to their Head office.

Include the fact that you do not believe they are "treating you fairly" and appear to be putting obstacles in your way to prevent you closing the account and in doing so are making money for themselves.

They will have 8 weeks in which to resolve the problem - after which time you can take your complaint to the ombudsman
