Hello, I'm after a bit of advice please.

Today I received a letter from BPO Collections saying they have been instructed by Motormile Finance to collect an outstanding debt, and despite requests from BPO and MMF to pay, the amount is still outstanding, blah blah blah.

This is the first letter I've received from them, I've had nothing from MMF - no emails, no calls, no letters. A quick Google tells me that MMF are themselves a debt collection agency. On their website they even call themselves doorstep collection specialists which is laughable really as I've not had anyone come round. But if they are a debt collection agency themselves then why would they ask another dca to collect the debt, and in any case it's not possible that I could be in debt directly with a dca.

And most importantly, I know for a fact that I have never been in debt with anyone, ever. So obviously, never mind having no prior communication from BPO or MMF, I've also never had any notices from the company I'm supposed to have this debt with in the first place. I'm wondering if BPO have used Motormile Finance because the 'Finance' part makes it sound like they are a loan company (actually my boyfriend initially thought that they were a car loans company).

Anyway, the letter goes on to threaten that if I don't pay they will have 'no alternative but to recommend to our client that a home visit may be the only option we have... blahblahblah.'

Where do I stand with this? Obviously I'm not going to pay them a penny, should I call their bluff and wait to see if they do send someone round? And if they do, how should I handle it? It's also a bit worrying that they have my name and address at all.

Thanks in advance :)

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

DX put it right... How can i explain this right...

BPO working for MMF is new to me on this one. MMF however is a nasty puerile bunch of monkeys from Leeds / Bradford way.

They lie and bully you into paying and believe they are above the law yadda yadda....

You get the idea... I would ignore and suggest waiting for something a bit more concrete to turn up.

What worries me is that ive just seen 3 threads for BPO Collections today about accounts they have suddenly managed to get and this is very bad in my eyes, especially if they have MMF now on their books.

(ooooo Ive just hit 1200 posts - Birthday :))

We could do with some help from you.

New to the site, My Partner also received the same letter as Starhawk today, as far as I can gather MMF deal with payday loan collections which we have never had, should we ignore this letter and see what happens next or contact them to find out what it's all about. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
