I certainly wouldn't vote for them in a general election and I wouldn't call myself a supporter either. There is no one else to take on Europe, all other politicians, especially Lib Dem, are whimps.

Agreed, the way they folded to the will of the Conservatives was laughable!

Germany (along with its partner in crime, France) is simply trying to conquer Europe again.. only this time by way of the Economy rather than bullets and tanks !

The EU created inequality within the EU, countries started playing 'keep up with the Jones ' countries were copying other countries economically without solid financial foundations, you just need to look at Italy, Ireland, Greece, Spain, Cyprus etc.

100% agree. This is where the EU fails in my eyes - though the EU does a reasonable job in distrbuting income to porer countries - though I'm not sure its altruistic nature works.

There's a lot to be impressed with about Germany. They have a very solid manufacturing-led economy. They train their youngsters very well. I'm incredibly worried that our youngsters haven't got much of a chance against the rest of the world - and it's only going to get worse if Gove gets his way.

I do wish Merkel would pipe down, though. She's bloody insufferable.

Sequenci, we have been "distributing" monies to so called under priviliged countries across the world for years. The greater proportion of it goes into the pockets of a few and those who desperately require medical aid, clean water, schools, ect are still not getting it. Did I not see something just recently - aid being sent out to one country for education has NOT been used for that purpose. So where did it go !

I resent sending aid to countries where the governments of those countries use the money to fund their armies or an elite few - when fresh water and education are required so desperately.

Did we not have a strong manufacturing base in this country prior to entering Europe ? Contracts were then given to other member states. British companies were suddenly owned by foreigners !

Agree, Africa is an obvious case in point.

We did, but then the '70s and '80s happened. That said, I think the globalisation of manufacturing was always going to happen. If I had a large firm I would have few qualms outsourcing work overseas if the quality of that work was on par. There is, in my view however, something to be said about things which are 'made in england'. I have a beautiful wool coat which was made in Devon. It's the most expensive coat I've ever bought but it's incredibly well made - and still looks as good as it did when I bought it in 2012.

Quite agree waste "foreign aid" passed out to dictators and states that support terrorism, the EU is bloated and unfit for any other purpose that giving jobs to grossly overpaid national politicians like Kinnock and Co.

One has to wonder if the "filthy rich" Arab States are aiding the Asian /African Islamic states other than supply funds for weapons.

I avoid buying anything made in the far east part of the planet partly because they're cheaply made and partly on principle.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I prefer german made stuff, tools, cars etc.

Despite that I really like some stuff made in britain which seems to last me longer than anything else.

When you consider what a basket case Germany was in 1918, 1945 and again after reunification they have donecan amazing job. If what they have done in Berlin and Potsdam is echoed around the rest of the country they have my admiration. They have a strong green party and strong human and employment rights. Maybe being federal makes a difference I don't know

You might consider the money that Britain pumped into Germany to help it rebuild.

I do indeed admire the way in which they have rebuilt their country. But I do not consider it gives them any right to tell me what do do in my own Country !

LOL, who doesn't understand the french surrender joke, its been around a while, it was even on the Simpsons!!

Anyhoo, to point this debate in a different discussion

Voltaire, who was a French writer/philosopher once wrote:

"If god does not exist, it would be necessary to create or invent him"

So if a Utopian government does not exist, how to we create it?

There are so many difficulties. Voting system, greed, love of power, adversarial politics, lack of usable skills in MP's (to govern), Ministers in charge of departments who haven't a clue, MP's lack of understanding of national and international issues, MP's lack of understanding of the issues that affect their constituents, the whip system, lack of accountability...... loads more.

I seem to remember some very surprised MP's when the North east of England had a referendum as to should Newcastle rule the Northeast (put simply) and got a very loud NO in response.

I think they may get the same response to who do we want to rule us UK or Europe. I say neither it wont make a bit of difference to us they would all rip us off..

dpick

but they are still doing it via the back door as they are working to have a super local goverment almaglmation

There's so many people on the planet who just want to look down on others that Utopia is a distant dream, but you never know a new age could be dawning....
