But does that also mean as a pedestrian I must have something similar?

I would like to see a "jay walking" law, such as in the USA.

I have seen several accidents over a couple of years - caused by cyclists. One that had no reflectors on the bicycle and rider wore no reflective clothing on an unlit road and poor weather conditions. Not content with that, he was weaving all over the road whilst talking on a mobile !

2 at least were caused by cyclists ignoring traffic signals.

An accident reported on our Local News a few days ago - a young lad is in a coma, had he been wearing a helmet this would not be the case and the Father is campaigning to make the wearing of protective clothing, mandatory. The reason the lad was not wearing the helmet his parents had purchased for him. "Because it messed up his hair style" !!

Pavements are for pedestrians. Roads are for vehicles, be they cars, lorries or bicycles. If everyone used the roads according the laws and with respect to other road users we might find we coexisted a little better.

As always it is the few who make it bad for the majority.

I agree in principle in what you say but what tends to happen is cyclists blame that the roads are too dangerous and this why they have to use the pavements but then pedestrians start getting run over by the cyclists..

Aha, now we are back at the beginning aren't we

We used to pay "Road Tax" - then Winston Churchill decided that the tax should go into general funds to build hospitals n schools and maybe even roads !!

What few pavements we do have in my rural community are not well maintained - the roads are even worse :(

So it doesn't matter where the cyclists ride, it isn't safe.

I live in rural cornwall, there are a few national cycle routes around the county, a lot of the cycle routes are incorporated into the footpaths. I drive a car , I cycle and I also walk, I rarely see the problems you get in the citys!

hello all:-)
