The Driving Vehicle and Licensing Agency has sold millions of details about drivers to parking firms, in deals that netted the agency £10m last year.

The agency sold the details at a rate of around 50,000 a week, totalling 2.4 million in a year, to approved companies that give out parking fines and clamp cars.

In some cases companies buying details have been criticised for using ‘heavy handed’ tactics with drivers to enforce fines of hundreds of pounds.
