Morning all

I hope you will be able to give me some advise on a possible Data Protection issue.

I am going through the mill at the moment, My wife had a nervous break down a few weeks back and ended up hurting my 8 year old son accidently.

All my children have been taken into care at the moment

The possible breach, I believe comes from the children's school,

My Landlord's Agent has been informed of certain details of what has happened, and and only a couple of professional groups of people know all the details, (Police ,Social services and the school's head mistress) which should not have been disclosed ,

I have been told the name of the person who informed the Agents and they are linked to the school by a partner working there.

So I am asking is this a breech ?

What are the possible penalties for a breach?

I do not want to get the school in any trouble, if anything I am trying to make them aware so it does not happen again to some one else.

This may cause problems for me if the LL decides that I have to move out. (this is my worry as it will affect when the children are returned)

Thanks in advance

If you are sure of your facts, then you should approach the Head Mistress with the details.

If the Partner working at the School has gone home passed this information on - then the school will need to deal with the one working at the school.

This is a matter for the Information Commissioner, so you might want to consider having a chat with them. You will probably have to put your complaint in writing eventually.

Thanks citizen B

I am sure it came from the school but do not have the proof,

I am reluctant to speak to the head at the moment,

So I thought I would discreetly speak to one of the school governors ,

He is the local vicar,

Are there any ramifications if they were reported , as I have already said , I do not want to cause the school a problem,

But want them too understand that there could be problems if they did it to the wrong person,

I think they need to understand the consequences if it did!

There would certainly be consequences for anyone having disseminated private information that they should not have and which could only have come from private files at the school. Although it could as easily have come from Social Services in the course of investigation. It is very important that you establish where the leak is.

I imagine that you would be able to speak to the Vicar/governor in complete confidence and he might be able to dig deeper on your behalf.

How were you made aware that information had been passed on to the LL agent ?

I have spoken to the social workers and the police who were involved ,

They both have said that they had no need to speak to the LL or his agents, but would have informed me first.

The reason I do not want to go direct to the headmistress, is that I have a few issues,(not big issues) with what she has said,

At a recent meeting a few half truths were told, covering ones back side comes to mind,

With regards to the landlords agents, they had called my parent,as they had not been able to contact me,

I had got behind with the rent, because of al the short notice meeting I have had to attend with the social workers.

Not at work no money. Very difficult to organise when you have to cancel at short notice, also I have been suffering from depression,

I am not a vindictive person, so I do not take what has happened personally

I know I can trust the vicar, so will have a discreet word,

Thanks
