I am on a Debt Management Plan. I am struggling to keep up some of the repayments. If I get a CCJ, I will probably lose my job. What should I do?

The DMP is self managed at the moment. It has been set up since the end of last year, and I fear it is too soon to contact creditors to make alternative offers. I feel threatened by my employers as the owner of my company does not like me, and would like to get shot given a chance. I don't like the threats. When confronted he always lies and claims he didn't say them. It's my word against his and there's not much I can do about it.

Any suggestions what I can do would be good.

Hello and welcome to CAG.

I'm sure people will be along with advice for you on the DMP.

You say your employer is threatening you, is that to do with debt matters or not? You might want to start a separate thread in the employment forum on employment aspects, but they won't advise you on debt.

Let me know if you have problems finding the other forum.

My best, HB

Everybody's circumstances can change at any time, and if you are struggling to keep up repayments then whoever it is you are rpaying should at least understand these things, you can only make payments of whatever you can afford, even if it means temporarily paying a smaller amount and then reviewing the situation every so often or when / if your situation changes. Have you spoken to the National Debtline, their advice is free, impartial and confidential - http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/

You may have to write to your creditors explaining that your current agreement is unsustainable due to what ever reason and can you reduce the amount payable to £XX and can you review the situation in 6 months.

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

Hello dx100uk,

I don't have my CRF to hand, but I can post up a list of debts tomorrow with the latest balances available.

None have ppi,

I have no priority debts and everything else has been worked out pro rata.

I am short to the tune of approx £150 pcm.

At the moment I have written to all creditors stating that due to a change in personal circumstances I am having difficulty keeping up with the repayments,

I am waiting for replies.

Some of my repayments are currently with DCA's.

Is there any chance of the DCA's seeing the list of my debts, as it might identify me?

Sorry to be paranoid.

What are you thinking dx?

no i doubt they will id you

we do this all the time

and anyway it wont matter

i'm slightly concerned you are paying DCA's

this is why the debt list & CRA file is omportant too.

we need to check that whom you pay

is

the correct people & legally entitled to it.

there are lots of things i'm thinking

been doing this too long

but before we advise we need the info.

there is no need to be exact on figure just say +£4k if between £4k - £5k .. ok.

where you are paying a DCA list the OC

where a dca shows as the owner on your CRA file, make ref to the OC too

OK, thanks. I'll post later today for you. I have checked everything I know of - correct DN's, where the DCA is taking payment that it is an Absolute Assignment and I've had the NOA. It's always good to have another eye cast over it though, so thank you.

Thanks dx - appreciated. I'll open threads for each separately. I'm a bit concerned the site won't have an overview of the whole situation though then. Should I mention the other debts on each separate thread so people know it's not just one debt I'm talking about.

What I'm trying to say (very badly sorry) is my worry is not being able to afford repayments to the DMP as a whole. Any one debt is not a problem. It's the combination of them all that's the problem, and this thread was labelled 'Debt Management and Self Help.' That is exactly what I want, not advice on individual debts per se. Does that make sense?

Yes, a thread with Halifax was opened for me after I posted about the default. You can see the account above.

It's self managed, but I still need to show everything is worked out pro rata, explaining my slight reluctance to open a separate thread for each debt. Ideally I want them seen as a whole rather than several individual ones.

Thanks

there is nothing to stop the conclusion being here

it is far TOO complex to understand more than one debt per thread

AND

being in the correct forum

will attract those that know that company
