I've just left AOL to go with BT Infinity. Speeds are great but they failed to mention my VOIP line was not supported. Thankfully I found a work around. They gave me a very long install date but I got on Twitter and found a reason to complain about something and they installed the same week. Pay your yearly line rental off in one lump sum for a good discount.

p.s I'm getting 50mb down, 11mb upload. and it's not fiber all the way to your home, only to the street cabinet then old school exsisting copper wire to your house so depending on how far from the cabinet you are will decide your speed.

Plus net have a rep on CAG (and not a lot of issues to deal with) and they use BT cables, so their fibre optic is the same as BT's... see how they compare on price.

If in doubt, contact a qualified insured legal professional (or my wife... she knows EVERYTHING)

Hi Freakyleaky,

Both Uswitch and Moneysupermarket have speed checkers for free online

or http://www.speedtest.net/

This is a joke. It says I have 16Mbit download bandwidth, no way I have this bandwidth, I am lucky if I have 4-5 Mb. The best way is to download a large file from a reputable ftp server and check the speed on the connectivity dialogue.

  • 2 months later...

I am with Virgin Media. Not the cheapest, but by far the best where I am. I pay for up to 30mb download speeds, but Virgin have doubled all existing customers speeds for free. Also, Virgin Media (as far as I know), are the only suppliers that don't put a speed block on P2P sites (not that I would use one to download a movie in less than 5 minutes). That would just be plain naughty.:-(

I now have a download speed of 58mb:oops:

If all else fails, kick them where it hurts and SOD'EM;)
