Hi All

 

I have to say that my MP has never let me down when I've approached him and it was no exception when I wrote to him recently about the bank charges, here's the reply;

 

Dear Natalie

Thank you very much for your email of 30 March. I apologise for the delay in responding. I share your concerns about the charges some banks levy on their customers and this is an issue I have pursued with banks and with Ministers on behalf of individual constituents.

However, I was interested to read the point you make about Common Law on contractual penalty charges and about the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations and I have written to the Chancellor, Gordon Brown, asking him to confirm that disproportionate charges are unlawful and to set out what steps the Government will take on this issue.

I will contact you as soon as I receive a response, but in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss any of this further.
