Once you've written/e-mailed the companies, lodge a formal complaint with the ICO, if they don't stop.

Tell them that is what you are going to do.

thanks ........Just read that today on martin lewis site.. wish I knew that before......apparently by responding stop they know that number exists and then sell it on..........making money out of our annoyance .......

If it gets too bad your provider should be able to change your number for you at very worst case scenario. Although to do it for free most networks need a crime reference number, just call the local police, report it and they should give you a crime ref number.
