I signed on for benefits for the first time in my life on 5th July. I lost my job unexpected on 4th July.

Oh pays mortgage and that takes the entire months salary. Had paid it 1st month which left us up the creek without a paddle. We have no money what's so ever.

I broke my back to get a job 137 job applications in 7 days and I got one starting tomorrow.

No I have no way of getting to work no fuel in the car, the train is cheaper but that will still cost 40.00 over the next few weeks.

Benefits office when I went to sign off said not a problem that's what crisis loans are for, crisis loans say no xxxxxx.

What's the point in having a benefits system in the country when they won't help when you need it.

When I was in a similar situation, I was advised that my local Job Centre had a discretionary fund for such things as people having trouble paying transport costs when returning to work - have you tried speaking to the Job Centre again and advising them that you were refused a crisis loan?

I'm surprised that they advised you to claim a Crisis Loan for work related travelling expenses. They really ought to have considered this under the advisers discretionary fund.

Go back to the jobcentre and ask them to to consider assisting you under the advisers discretionary fund.

My advice is based on my opinion, my experience and my education. I do not profess to be an expert in any given field. If requested, I will provide a link where possible to relevant legislation or guidance, so that advice provided can be confirmed and I do encourage others to follow those links for their own peace of mind. Sometimes my advice is not what people necesserily want to hear, but I will advise on facts as I know them - although it may not be what a person wants to hear it helps to know where you stand. Advice on the internet should never be a substitute for advice from your own legal professional with full knowledge of your individual case.

It wasn't just the saying no. At lot of it was the way the advisor spoke to me.

I told them the reason I was ringing in the first instance, I than had to account for evey penny we had over the last month and what it was spent on. I came off the phone in tears. It was the most humiliating thing I have ever done and the advisor knew at the beginning of the call that they would say no.

I don't know why I had to justify why we paid our mortgage at the end of June and why my 4 yr old has to wear nappies at night and why my bank account was overdrawn and the payment of 9.00 2 weeks ago was swallowed up by it.
