Not sure how this would help the stray dog problem - responsible owners will already have their dogs chipped; it's the ones who treat their animals as disposable accessories who are the main culprits. Would these people bother to get their dog chipped in the first place? I think not. And who would police this? You can't tell if a dog's been chipped just by looking at it! The only way round this would be to have EVERY puppy chipped at birth - and I really can't see that happening.

 

Even dogs that have been chipped have been 'lost' - several Dog Wardens I have come across don't realise that chips can migrate to anywhere on the body, so a neck scan is not enough.

 

It's going to be a good year for the vets and the microchip companies..........
