Car/van insurance

Sorry, not sure where to put this for best advice:-Please help: New car/old van insurance Hello,My husband recently changed his car from a Mitsubishi L200 (a van but not for his purposes) to a Ford Focus, we arranged insurance through Allianz and they asked for proof of no claims so he sent the renewal notice from Hastings Van who were insuring him as a van purely because of the nature of his vehicle, it was used as a private car and now the new insurance company say they will not accept this as it is van insurance, please could you advise as to what we should do to proceed with this or let us know of any insurance companies who will accept the van insurance (it was not a van!!!), this no claims started with a car and has built up, he has had an L200 for aprrox 5 years and has 7 years no claims, protected.Thank you

The L200 is classified as a light commercial vehicle (LCV) and therefore regardless of how you used it, it would be insured as such.

I understand that, so can you tell me of an insurance company that is going to accept this no claims discount proof, it's still no claims whatever vehicle it was earned on.

As far as I know insurance companies will not transfer NCD earned on a commercial vehicle to a private car, or at least not all of it.

 

Your best bet is to go through a broker, who should be able to tell you which, if any, insurance companies will accept a transfer from commercial to private.

I must admit I thought it might have to be a broker, could we not go back to Hastings who do car as well as van insurance to see if there is anything they could do?
