What connecting leads are you using ?And which inputs/outputs on the projector and laptop ?

Have you looked in the projector menu to see whats configured there as default ?

Phono plugs usually always work-for audio I use a stereo lead 2 phonos from projector to a 3.5 stereo pnono plug to laptop.

And for signal (coloured yellow) a straight single phono to phono lead.

One of the ALT keys on your laptop will toggle between video output to the laptop screen, or to the VGA output. (This will be indicated by a key (usually a number key) with a monitor symbol on it.)
