Two days ago my mum purchased a brand new rice cooker from the Chinese supermarket Hoo Hing with cash. At the checkout two employees got the product out of the box and plugged it in, and asked her to check that it was working and satisfactory. She was in a rush and only glanced at it and said it was fine as it turned on. The two employees then carried the rice cooker to the car for her. However when she opened the box at home she found that the cooker had large cracks down the side.

After this she took the item back to the supermarket and asked the manager for a refund, to which he refused as he said that the two employees had asked her to check that the item was satisfactory, and to which she had agreed. He just told her to contact the supplier directly regarding this issue.

I would like to know if it is possible to get a refund or is it my mum’s fault for not checking the product fully. Any advice is much appreciated, thanks.
