Well, not been on for a while but still been busy!!

Just filed online claim for £997 against West Brom for arrears fees, non arrangement fees and broken arrangement fees on a mortgage I had with them.

Did get a payment of approx £250 back off them after phoning, for a redemption statement charge (£150 for 1 A4 page received 2 days after requested!!!) and £110 for debt counsellors they instructed without my authority and who never turned up anyway. The also knew that we were changing our mortgage to another company imminently.

Anyway, one interesting statement was made by them in a letter to me that went like this:

"As detailed to you the application of the arrears fees to the mortgage account is not purely for the administration of the account but also to act as a preventative measure to borrowers who fall into arrears without the realisation that there would be any consequences or actions following the accrual of any arrears balance"

Now if that not is stating "it's a penalty charge" but in a roundabout way, I don't know what is.

14 days and counting :-)

Smile: £2,522 full payment received,

Citi Cards: £693.71 balance written off. Full value of Court claim,

West Brom Building Society: DPA request sent 15.05.06,
