  1. Hi all having a few problems Had a liability order against me and the OH I accept no probs, I have defaulted on the agreement with the council as money dried up and had to choose between food and heat or paying, I have paid just over 1/3 £950.00 remains They have given me 14 days from 15-12-10 to pay in full.or they will pass to the Baliffs. they go on to tell be about the Admin & enforcement act amended 2006 From what I have read on the forum this does not sound right.( some is but not all) 1st no distress 24.50 2nd 18.00 leveying distress 24.50 for 1st 100 24% 100-400 4% 400-1500 no need to go on as £950 then Walking Possession 12.00 Close Possession 15.00 per day it says these are fix by law at the end it states If the baliffs are unsucessful, the council will make an application to the court for your comimtal to prison, It is not that I won't pay it's I can not pay at the moment until the money cones in. The other thing at the start of the letter it states Various properties year outstanding 2010. I don't have or owe for any other property, so what is that about. Questions 1- Can they charge all of the above, I undestand some of them, but not the close possession @ £15.00 per day. 2- And what of the chances of being sent to prison. 3-what is the variuos property's about? 4- do they have to give me more time as there are some bank hols in between. Hope some one can help, as just found out the OH is expecting, It's alright for these people in recovery they get there monthly wage, sometime I get no payment or very little for 2-3 months at a time. Thanks in advance Leakie
  2. Hi there New to the forum so please be gentle. Came home today to find two letters for my husband from MKDP for two debts that were sold by HSBC to MKDP on 8th Dec 2011. My husband reckons he hasn't been in contact/made any payments since May 2008. The original debt was for around 2K, the demands are for 4K. Can anybody give me any idea of the best way to deal with this? We really can't afford to pay these back at the moment but I can't stand the thought of someone turning up on the doorstep and harassing us..I'm a bit of a wimp! Any help/advice would be gratefully appreciated. I have been googling like crazy but there is a lot of conflicting information out there.... Thanks in advance
  3. Hoping to go away a few times this year and am looking at travel insurance. I've been given quotes that range from £30-£100 ish. But is there really that much difference between the insurance that each company offers? I've had a look on compare the market and put my details in to see what comes up. I am aware that some compaies won't come up on comparison websites.
  4. I've just received a PCN from Manchester City Council. How long do I have until I need to move the car? I obviously don't want to receive a further ticket, or, far worse, have the car towed. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks
  5. I am self employed and my earnings vary a lot often for a short period oftime. My housing benefit claim was already close once because my earnings weretoo high. However the problem is that my earnings vary a lot often for asmall period of time and it is inconvenient for me to make a new claim forhousing benefit each time my earnings vary. I would like to know how to explainmy situation to the housing benefit department to avoid that my claim is closedeach time my earnings vary temporarily I would like to know if there is a specific law for self employer or if I have to file a specific form
  6. My brother has gone to stop with mum for 3 months, without going into full detail, officials have closed his flat, with no access. He is signed off work at the moment by the doctor, which he has to produce certificates for. Guess who now is expected to collect the certificate(s) as mums isn't local to his address. (in the UK though) Will housing benefit still be paid on his flat?
  7. I've got a 6 year old Hotpoint Aquarius FDW20 that's not working. Soon after switching on it stops working and the wash and drying lights flash. From what I can see online I think it may need a new heater in which case the cost of the repair would probably be half the cost of a new one. Anyone know if I've got this right, or if there may be something we can do more cheaply?
  8. I was quite disturbed this morning when I wondered whether certain Insurance Companies are [problem]ming the public via computer systems which ask you to pay more money than you should be. I am a landlord and insured my first house in early July via Bedford Insurance and a company 'e-unlimited'. I paid £315.13 for the whole year. I was told that when occupied this would fall to £178.13. Due to extensive renovation, a tenant walked into my house on Wednesday ie. exactly 5 months from the date of insurance cover. I contacted 'Bedford Insurance' and after having done some basic sums beforehand was surprised to discover that the money due back to me was less than I expected. I spoke to two insurance brokers who immediately got defensive when I questioned this figure stating they were simply doing what the computer had told them. Given there was a discrepancy of £7.28 in my favour, I asked whether I could speak to a manager. Credit to the manager, he did phone me back this morning, much to my surprise, and he bothered to go through the sums in detail with me. He suggested that insurance quotes go up and down and therefore wondered whether the £178.13 quoted to me in early July was now higher. On checking, and much to his embarrassment, it was a little lower! He agreed with my sums and then, almost flippantly, said he would offer an additional £10 on to the quote the computer gave me the previous day. This leads to a disturbing question: How many people are paying more than they should be because the computer has got the sums wrong? Or more conspiratorially, are some companies purposefully manipulating the computer system to achieve financial figures very much more in their favour?
  9. I recently found out after a SAR request to a DCA that at least Experian provide more information about credit applications than we can see on our reports ! There was info about Employment Status, Number of Dependants and Property Value - none of this is shown on the credit reports Anyone know how they get this info and why it isn't shown on a typical report ?

  13. At the time I got my job I was unemployed so didn't really have a lot of room for manure, If I turned the job down no JSA, and I never found out about the overtime clause until I had been in the job 2-3 weeks. I will be brutally honest, I'd rather not be there at all let alone stay any longer than necessary so this over time clause kills me. We already work 45 hours basic let alone over time, Is there anyway out? I know all about the 48 hour limit but its averaged out over X amount of weeks. Its the fact all plans have to be dropped as and when asked or your marched into the office and reminded about the contract, I missed my kids nativity play over it at Xmas. Its all a major pain in the behind for £6.20 per hour.
  14. Sorry friends, I am not a pro. Please can you take a look at these and tell me if I was charged PPI? The copy I hv recd. is not very well scanned either. Thanks
  15. Hiya all, Just trying to help a friend of mine out. Last year she suffered a severe rape and sexual assault and has been off work ( until last month ) and receiving specialist police counselling for it. In this period of time she has got behind in repayments and one debt ( to an individual ) has gone to the high court and baliffs have attended when she was not in ( total was £3750 ) She has offered a proposal of £400 per month but they have come back and said they will only accept £1000 per month and £750 upfront which there is no way she can afford as her wages for the month are £1400 after tax She still suffers from severe anxiety and I am really worried about her as this has already put her more in her shell Am I right in assuming that as she has a crime reference number for it and is under counselling she would be classed as a vulnerable person? I have told her not to answer the door to them but its already having a huge effect, she missed a recorded delivery yesterday as she got herself into such a panic when the door went and had to miss a day off work because of it I am going to help her write a letter to the baliffs but need to know where I can go to make sure it is written properly. She has a PPI claim coming back - which I did for her - in 2 weeks but they rejected waiting until then for her to pay it all in full Any help would be greatly appreciated
  16. this is the biggest step I have made about dealing with this and I could really use some advice: at 16 I knew better and I was going to show everyone, I moved out from my mum & dads and in with a friend. At the time it was a way to drink without the hassle of parents.. Time went on and I met someone and stayed with them until it was unbearable and I declared myself homeless and stayed in a unit.. This was when i realised I was pregnant and with so many complications with my childs dad I was eventually moved away from him to temporary accommodation and then a secure tenancy. By now 18 nearly 19. The thing is I didnt have a clue, I hadnt spoken to my family and just didnt know what I was doing or even the basics of running a house, the mother & cleaning stuff came naturally but the paying bills etc didnt. Now im in an unbelievable mess, I have four years worth of gas and council tax arrears, multiple payday loans, provident loans and unpaid phonebills. For years I have binned letters so to even find where to start on resolving this is hard. I can see how stupid I seem and I am sorry for the mess I got myself in but what can i do? Please dont judge as I have seen people get pounced on for this but nobody could feel as terrible for this as I do. Mx
  17. I don't seem to be able to get through to Virgin that I just want a response by email to my simple query about why I've been charged for two landline calls that were in my allowance (never use it all up these days). I have received no response to this - just keep getting someone phoning me up, from abroad so the signal keeps coming and going, echoing on the line so every word I say is repeated, I cannot understand them half the time because of the poor line quality and that their regional accents are hard to understand. demanding the whole password and security answers, and completely ignoring what I say to them, which is not good enough. I have asked them to stop calling me, but they keep doing it - I've had to turn my phone off to get some peace last night and I don't see why I should pay to call CS to tell them they've made an error and ask for the overcharge to be refunded. And I'd like it in writing - so I have proof that they are going to refund it. Is there a rep here who can sort this out and get the bill corrected?
  18. Hi, all. I'm new here and today I have decided to take the bull by the horns and ask for the help that I need. Both myself and my husband have Vanquis credit cards. While I am managing mine, just, my husbands is ridiculous. The credit limit on the card is £2000 but we missed a payment, as we could not afford to pay and now the balance is £2750 and going up by £125.00 per month. My husband is a builder and at present only works a few days a month, probably a week max. I work part time, and this is the only debt that we are not managing to pay. Now Vanquis has passed the debt to Impact, and they are harassing us with texts and phone calls all day every day. We have made them an offer of £50 a month, but they are not willing to accept this, nor are they willing to stop the interest. Now I think it's pointless to pay the £50 a month when they are adding the £125 monthly also. I really don't know what to do anymore, it's really getting me down. Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance, bec
  19. Please dont judge, i honestly feel so sick, i cant sleep, and i cant eat. I need help asap. I have a partner, who doesnt live with me, due to the fact hes getting help for anger problems, and tbh we cant afford to live together. He stays on his mates sofa 3-4times a week and then at mine the rest. Obv he leaves for work and comes home when hes staying here. He pays £100 to my landlord for the extra hb doesnt cover, which helps alot else i would be in debt. He doesnt pay any other bills, apart from halfs on sky internet, which he uses when he stays. we have two children together, he has never "lived"with me, apart from when we lived at my mum n dads for a year, but he had his own room, and paid rent. I have a feeling i know who has "grassed" on me, a women we had a kind of thing with a year ago. OH ended up cheating on me with her. I finished, He realised what he did, so stopped it with her and came back to me. She was jealous, and said some very hurtful things, and did hurtful things. Anyway, heres the awkward bit. Were engaged. He proposed last year. weve set a date for July 13th, and have gave notice of the marriage. So i dont know if there going to believe were not living together, even though we have two children and are "getting married". Although the wedding is on hold until he sorts his anger out. He has until Jan. I feel sick everyday, I have postnatal depression, which is all time high, So feel like breakingdown all the time. Forgot to add, he did stay with me for a few weeks this year, As my depression got so bad that i couldnt even get out of bed. [my mum passed away two years ago]. WHAT evidence could they have on me? I know all his bills ect does get sent to the house. what am i going to do? i cant live without my own money, i feel sick and worried

  21. British Gas broke into businesswoman's home over an unpaid bill despite not having any gas appliances in her flat Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2431864/British-Gas-broke-businesswomans-home-unpaid-despite-having-gas-appliances-flat.html#ixzz2gMoyfcLV I would hope they provided this poor woman with more than just an apology !! 22. Hi, I've jus found out that my best friends house was repossessed yesterday. I'm still waiting to get to the bottom of the issue but the following is what I know: Mortgage is with Skipptons He has missed the last 4 consecutive payments He had missed payments before and caught up He has missed payments, been to court and was grated a stay order if he payed a set amount which he did His mortgage payments were £600 but after the court stay order they increased them to £800 (not sure why yet) He had plenty of notice that this was going to happen but dug his head in the sand, didn't ask for help, didn't speak to the Mortgage company and tried to resolve his issues with beer He is currently unemployed (own farming business recently failed) He has just got divorced but has joint custody of his 18 month old daughter for 3 days/2 nights per week All of his possessions are still in his house and there is a notice on the door saying he has 7 days from yesterday to contact them to arrange removal of his possessions Council have said there is nothing they can do for him as the child care allowance for his daughter is not in his name Couple of key questions: If he grants me authority to speak to his mortgage company do you think there is any hope of getting him back in his house if I pay the outstanding arrears? Has anyone ever managed to get back in their home after the house has been repossessed? I'm pretty savvy with financial matters but this is an area that I really don't know much about (and I hope that I never have to learn for myself! - off to touch some wood). Any suggestions or ideas would be very much appreciated! Thanks M
  23. Hi I have previously posted about a situation regarding a friend of mine. Husband on ESA (Assessment Phase) awaiting tribunal hearing. She has recently closed her business. She tried to sign on Jobseeker's but was told she would be added to her Husband's claim. It could well be she didn't have the relevant contributions as she paid Class 2 and Class 4. It is now some eight weeks since the DWP were informed about this but they are still only receiving her Husband's £71.70 a week ESA. Their only other income is approximately £62/£63 a week private pension. They have no savings. Can someone please advise is income of approximately £135.00 deemed enough to live on? They have applied for CTB but heard nothing back. They have returned all necessary forms. CT is £155.00 a month (12 months). They have a mortgage of in excess of £800 a month which is now in arrears as is their CT (both 1 month). Her husband has been informed that it could be approximately 4 months before he hears about a Tribunal Hearing. I have tried to look at information for them and it would appear that he is entitled to Pension Credit from January 2014. That said, it looks like changes may effect this from October 2013 as my friend is younger than he is and it appears they may then go off the youngest age. Sorry for rambling on - trying to help a friend in need. Thank you for any advice. VUB
  24. Like many others I've reached the end of my interest only mortgage term to find I'm in bad shape financially. I have a relatively small outstanding balance, about 8% of the property value that the Halifax won't remortgage. I have some savaings to offer as a part payment, do they accept offers? how much should I offer if they do and is it best to use a solicitor? Thanks
  25. Hi all, I have about 900 left to pay on my Lloyds TSB loan. The usual direct debit for £346 will go out on 1st March but I have come by an extra £550 this month and want to put this towards the loan. Would there be an early repayment charge if I do this now and let the £346 go out as usual to pay off the loan? Or could I pay it all except for £5 for example, and then pay the £5 a couple of days later? Would this avoid a charge? Thanks
