  1. Hi all, I have about 900 left to pay on my Lloyds TSB loan. The usual direct debit for £346 will go out on 1st March but I have come by an extra £550 this month and want to put this towards the loan. Would there be an early repayment charge if I do this now and let the £346 go out as usual to pay off the loan? Or could I pay it all except for £5 for example, and then pay the £5 a couple of days later? Would this avoid a charge? Thanks
  2. I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place but I'm just after some advice. We sold our first house in 2007, which was on a residential mortgage with Northern Rock and was being let out as my husband is a serving member of the armed forces. When we went to buy another house we were told by Northern Rock that we were no longer entitled to a residential mortgage as we would be letting it out and they would only agree to give us a Buy to Let mortgage with a much higher rate of interest and charges i.e 6.59% fixed for 5 years as opposed to the 4% fixed deals that were also available at the time. We told them that although we would have to rent the house out, it would be our main residence and we intend to live there once my husband gets out, but they wouldn't hear of it. Anyway we took the deal thinking we had no choice. I have since been trying to find out if there is a relevant law against doing this and today came across this: http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/mortgag...&in_page_id=58 Of particular note is comment number 3 at the bottom by Kevin Langshaw from Plymouth. I know I am not the only one that this has happened to and wondering if anyone else has had any luck in getting interest back from their mortgage lender. Would it help if I wrote to the Financial Ombusdmen or FSA or something like that? Many thanks for any help or advice anyone can give!
  3. I would have but I am visiting family 250 miles away from where it was bought and had to get it fixed here as the cat converter had completely sheared away and the car was undriveable.
  4. Thanks all. I've decided to get a second opinion on the faults before I go back to the dealer. I'm reluctant to reject the car as I've just had to spend £690 today getting the exhaust/cat converter and tyres replaced.
  5. Great, thanks for your reply, do they have to fix it themselves? Because I don't trust them to do it properly. Or can I have it done somewhere I trust and have them pay for it. Problem is, if I do that, what if they refuse to pay?
  6. I bought a used car 3 weeks ago from a used car dealer for £1500. It was 'sold as seen' with no warranty. They had their own in-house MOT and as such the car came with a full MOT. My exhaust pipe snapped this week and I took the car to Kwikfit who have given me a long list of problems which need sorting amounting to over £1100! I could only afford to have a few things done and now have the car back but have been advised that the other things need doing asap as they are in the red advisory section of the vehicle report they have given me. I asked the guy at Kwikfit whether it should have passed the MOT with these problems and he said no, it should never have passed an MOT. What on earth should I do? Should I get the problems sorted and go back to the garage to recoup the cost of repairs? Can I report them to VOSA? I just can't afford to fix the problems and now have an unroadworthy car which I don't feel safe putting my children in.
  7. Thanks for the clarification, just a quick one, today I received an allocation questionaire as Lloyds have entered a defence. Once I filled in this and sent it back, what happens then?
  8. Hi all, well DG's 28 days was up this Thursday and on Friday I received a full offer!!!!! so I crossed out the confidentiality bit in their letter and said I would accept the payment, it went in the post on Monday night. HOWEVER,,, this morning I got an allocation questionnaire from the court saying they had filed a defence!!!! What on earth does this mean and what do I need to do now!!!??? Why did HSBC make an offer and then go and file a defence? Do I just ignore it and wait for the money?
  9. Could anyone answer this for me? Also, I've logged into my MCOL account yesterday and today and on both occasions there is nothing showing in the claim details box - its just blank!! What does this mean?
  10. Hi all, just after some more advice, I received an acknowledgement from moneyclaim saying that HSBC intend to defend, this was on 10th November, is there anything I need to do? I haven't heard anything since then. What will happen next?
  11. Well, I received the Acknowledgement of Service today and it says that HSBC intend to defend. I know they have 28 days from now, but can anyone tell me what the likely course of events will be from now on and what time scale are we looking at?
  12. Hi all, well I sent my LBA on 02/11/06 and I've just received a response basically saying they think their charges are fair and justified and that they will not agree to refund any charges. They say that 'this letter is their final response and that if I remain dissatisfied I should take it up with Financial Ombudsman etc. What should I do now - do I just go straight to MCOL?
  13. Thank you so much Michael, I will send that letter off tomorrow, that's fantastic, thanks for your help
  14. Hi again all, Ok, I filed my claim on MCOL for about £3500 in total (with interest) yesterday after no response to my LBA. Today I received a letter from HSBC saying they are prepared to offer £2000 in full and final settlement and I have to respond within 7 days either accepting or refusing. They said that this offer is by no way an admission on their part. What do I need to do now? Should I just ignore it and let the MCOL take its course, or do I need to accept/refuse the offer? If so is there a template for this? Many thanks! Hopefully not long before I get my dosh back!
