  1. For the last few days, or so, I've been getting phone calls asking for my friend - she's still away visiting her family. They are mostly a mixture of Auto-digitalker messages and sms digitalker. I think it is to do with her Barclays account - we sent an SAR request months and months ago, see further up the "Continuing a financial arrangement" thread, and I think that they have got fed up. The SAR is at the local Barclays branch awaiting collection, it came a couple of days after my friend went away - the bank staff do know that she will be in to collect it, in very early August. We have no idea of the true balance, because Barclays never sent any statements, [probably needed all their paper for scribbling down "Libor" calculations]! On the two occasions that they've spoken, these CSL shower have asked if they can speak to her, and I told them, "No you can't, put it in writing, and it will be dealt with" I don't think that they can compose or read, letters. Never, ever, is my friend going to speak to them, [except over their dead bodies, of course] - she is classed as "a vulnerable person", disabled, deaf, and sometimes very easily confused - in fact she doesn't even know about it, I've not mentioned it, no need to spoil her holiday. Apart from the first three or four calls, I'm recorded, date, time, and type of each call. As I've told 'em twice to write, is that it, just ignore further voice calls, but simply carry on recording them? Sam
  2. I have other threads here and have found CAG advice very u$efu£! I have a business account (ltd co) with Barclays. I wasn't using the company for a while as I was first unemployed then had a perm job so didn't have any money going into that account and never arranged for an overdraft facility. Last year I had around £1000 in the account when they started charging commission every month (despite their literature saying it was charged quarterly, they charged the 'quarterly' amount every month!) and also added things like 'business essentials' that I never ever ever requested! I withdrew/used most of the money I had in the account and they kept applying charges which caused the account to go overdrawn and they'd been charging quite a lot of interest on the O/D (which was made up mostly of their own charges and was never requested or arranged by either me or the other Director!). Recently my bosses put their company into liquidation and made everyone redundant but hired us back as freelancers so I'm using the company account again. Naturally the o/d amount was deducted from the deposit, leaving me with little money till the end of August . Would be great if you guys could point me in the right direction for reclaiming charges and interest on charges on a business account, in particular those for 'services' I never requested or even knew about!!! Many thanks in advance...
  3. WARNING: Don't let banks act on your behalf without your permission everytime... RE Barclays scandle. I worked for Barclays Trust Company as a securities clerk in the late 80's. Our function was to deal with probate, and investing clients money that had been left in a trust estate. When we got told our branch had to reach profit targets of £1million, our managers went through all clients portfolio accounts that did not require permission to act and 'turned them over'. what this means is you look at the list of recommended buys and sells from the economics department, and action them indescriminately. WHY? cos you collect 1.5-2.5% commission each time. We reached out target in less than 72hrs! what i noticed is that they only did this to accounts not requiring clients consent. i also noticed that the same portfolio's that required clients permission performed better that year earning 25-30% return, whereas, the former only gained 15-20%. i asked about it, and was told that it was not illegal, as the FSA regulation would consider if the client could have done better leaving money in a savings a/c. As the return was still higher, there was no case to answer. This is why the Robin Hood tax idea would fail, as with the introduction of advanced algorithm sell/buy triggers, the rate of 'turning over' our pension funds has gone stratospheric, whenever they want to raise profits. Even if the commission rate reduces to 0.5%, when you spin it faster it is shaving our retirement funds needlessly.
  4. hi all, This post is on behalf of a friend and im looking for some advice regarding barclays bank. My friend holds a savings account with barclays, near the end of may her entire balance was wiped out of her account. My friend immeadiately contacted her account holding barclays branch, and was advised that fraud had taken place on her account. She was told that it would take 6 months for barclays to investigate the fraud on her account and plus she would have to wait this time to get her money back. Something doesnt sit right here? Any suggestions/advice appreciated. Thanks
  5. Hi I have some PPI claims going on, two of which are for Barclaycards. One was cleared and closed, but the other is within my DMP. My question is will they use any money awarded on the closed account to offset against the one in my DMP? Thanks.
  6. No suprises there then. http://www.fsa.gov.uk/about/media/facts/fines/top

  8. I have a problem with Barclays. In 2006 I defaulted on a loan and they entered a Default on my credit files. In the meantime I have been on an arrangement to pay them. The default came off my credit files this year aftyer 6 years and then, a couple of weeks later, barclays have filed an "Arrangement to Pay" marker for the same debt. Can they do this?
  9. Hi, I requested a copy of my CCA to Barclays and I got a negative response. Not too sure what they meant. Can anyone help me with this. The letter is as follows: Dear XXX, REFERENCE: SECTION 78 OF THE CONSUMER CREDIT ACT 1974 We refer to your request for information under Section 78 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 (the "Act") As no sum is, or will or may become payable under your credit agreement, Section 78(3)(a) of the Act provides that we are not obliged to provide you with the documents and information you seek. We can confirm that the cheque enclosed with your request has not been banked and has been destroyed. Please advise as to how I can attain this information. Thanks!!
  10. I'm having some issues with guaranteed transaction charges recently been applied to my Barclays current account. First some background : I'm currently in repayment plans with several payday loan companies after a medical diagnosis forced me to suspend my university studies. I was dependent on at least some of the student loan to pay off my outstanding commitments, however a week before it was due to be paid I recieved a letter stating I wouldn't get anything at all. This left me in a position where I would not be able to make interest repayments every month, let alone tackle the debt itself, so repayment plans were the only option. I was able to secure plans with all but one of the lenders, and budgetted my wages accordingly so that I would not go beyond my overdraft at all, however the lender who didn't want to play ball decided to scupper these plans and take money £20 I didnt have anyway. This particular transaction, however, seems to have triggered not 1 but 3 fees. I spoke to Barclays about this immediately upon receiving the letter but they refused to budge. Now that the transactions have cleared properly and I can see exactly what my balance was, I'm trying to reclaim the money. The first fee is for £30 to lender 1. This went out of my account on 21/05, and at the end of that particular working day my balance was -£1456.61. I have a £1500 overdraft facility in place. The following day lender 2 (who wouldn't agree to a payment plan) took two payments, 1 for £40, then another for £20. The same day I also incurred £32 worth of charges. This left me at -£1550.61 On my online statement only the £40 payment and the charges themselves are shown to take my account beyond my overdraft limit, which is what I was expecting to pay a fee for. I do not know why, but I have not been sent paper statements in several months. Do I have a case here or should I just sit back and take what they like? If I can't reclaim the money I'll have no choice but to apply for further credit with another lender as I have bills due before my next pay date that I can't quite afford.

  12. Hi all, I thought I would use this helpful forum to document my story not only in the hope that others here who are more in the know may be able to assist but also to help others who may be going through the same situation. My story is currently ongoing. Currently, I am attempting to claim back charges applied to my unsecured loan account. These are made up of the £22.50 late payment charges. There are enough of them that they add up to a few hundred pounds. I have had numerous conversations, both over the phone and in writing with Barclays over the last year and have always come up against the same response, which is "you signed up to the terms and conditions therefore the charges apply" At one point they agreed to remove some of them but not all. I am going through a similar situation with Santander. I have sent a Subject Access Request to Barclays and the 40 days expired at the beginning of last week. I heard nothing from them at all, not even an acknowledgement of my request, even Santander managed that. I admit that I was a bit cheeky and 'forgot' to send the £10 cheque along with my request. Santander replied by asking for the money at which point they said they would proceed with my request. Fair enough I thought and send them the cheque. Shortly after, they sent me a letter saying they had received the cheque and would be completing the request within the 40 days which commenced on X date. All well and good. From Barclays? Nothing. Well, that's not quite true. Last week I sent them the reminder letter from here, giving them a further 7 days or I will commence court action. Yesterday I got a generic letter from the complaints department, saying they will look into my 'complaint' and I should expect a reply within 8 weeks! This was my face upon opening the letter.... They just seem so disorganised. I get that they must be dealing with so many of these at the moment but that doesn't remove the frustration and the opinion that I am dealing with an incompetent organisation. I will update the thread along the process, which I am quite prepared to take all the way. Any advice would be gratefully accepted.
  13. Received hubby's SAR from Barclays today, giving exactly the 6 years of info. Do you think it's worth writing to ask for older stuff or do you think that's it? Not quite far enough back to get old loan details
  14. Hi all. Wondering if I could get a bit of advice here on a situation I'm facing with Barclays. Basically I called on the morning Thursday the 7th due to dodgy transactions on my account, the card was cancelled and a temporary credit applied to my account (I've contacted the police etc). I was told that my new card should me with me Saturday or Monday at the latest. Come Monday - no card! So I call them on Tuesday and they say the system was slow and to allow until Thursday, if it hadn't arrived by then I was to call up and they would cancel the card that I had not received and send a replacement out as a priority delivery. Bang! Come Thursday afternoon - no card! I call up customer relations, and speak to a guy who tells me that it has to be given until Friday and thats the banks policy (I find out this was not the case at all!) he says he's checked with Debit Card Services and the cards been sent out and that I should receive it on the Friday. Low and behold, come Friday - still no card! I call up the bank and speak to another Customer Relations/Response member who ordered me a new card and cancelled the one that I didn't recieve - while on the phone and checking online banking, we discover that the card I didn't recieve had been used online and over the phone on the 13th and 14th! Something which the advisor that I spoke to on the Thursday should have noticed and could have stopped it. Its at this point I'm fuming and the advisor tells me that he could have cancelled the card as he was supposed to (notes were left by the manager on the Tuesday) and now I have to wait until these other fraudulent transactions that were made with the missing card debit from my account before I can dispute them or do anything - Leaving me currently £200 out of pocket. Basically I want to know where I stand and what, if any, other options there are! And I'm still without a card!
  15. I have just recieved a letter after 8 weeks from barclays to say my ppi claim has been refused on the grounds it was submitted by post and as a result they are not able to uphold my complaint. I was paying about £10 a month for at least 5 years . What steps can i take now ?
  16. got a letter from Barclays cancelling our account and debit card, supposed to have JSA go in on Tuesday now have to phone up Job Centre and ask for a giro, grrrrr,
  17. Good evening all, I'll "try" and keep this brief. I'm looking into claiming some overdraft protection charges back on behalf of my mum, who has (still active) a barclays personal account with a £1,600 overdraft. She's recently requested all of her statements and has totalled up the best part of a grand (£998) worth of these mysterious charges she has no idea about. Is this O/D Protection same as PPI? Can you claim in the same way? She's printed off the payment protection questionnaire from the FOS but a number of questions on there don't apply or seem relevant. I was hoping somebody might have dealt with this situation before and could advise how we proceed with this one? Thanks for reading, Jim
  18. I have just won 3 loans with ppi back for my mum of just 12 000 pounds from start to finish it took me 14 days, one loan of 10 000 payed out 8000 pounds ppi refund, barclays did all the leg work and were very helpful although they did sell ppi to a disabled woman who would not of been covered. I have 7 more to GO OUT WITH BARCLAYS possibly worth around 60,000 over 20 years and near to completion, I found it quite easy and barclays did give me all the loan agreements over the phone, just awaiting the rest of the money into my mums bank accounts, but without this site I would noot of been empowered to do so thank you all so much, as my mother had been taken advantage of all them years ago And a thankyou to barclays for making it so easy, but they would not of looked good in court with what I put on the fos quetionaire Tina
  19. How can i remove the wrongly applied Gone Away label from my Barclays current account? i have not gone anywhere, is there an e mail address i can write to? i am getting no joy what so ever from my local branch. Thanks.
  20. Hi Another Grandma reclaim! Just received SAR reply... Barclays have given my grandma statements starting from Jan 1998 !!! There is Overdraft Protection on the first few statements: O/D PROTECTION 150 @ £0.80 /100 -- £1.20 However it's only appearing on: Statement 1 - 02 Feb 98 Statement 2 - 02 March 98 Statement 3 - 01 Apr 98 Statement 4 - 01 May 98 Statement 5 - 01 Jun 98 Statement 6 - 01 Jul 98 Statement 7 - 03 Aug 98 Statement 8 - 01 Sep 98 Nothing then from Statement 8 to 2012. Because barclays have only produced evidence for 8 statements, does that mean we cannot prove overdraft protection was added to the account before 02 Feb 98 ? Therefore my grandma does not have claim? I know she can claim back what is evident, but I don't see much point in claiming back £9.60 + interest. Any help please Thanks
  21. Hi, A couple of years ago I contacted Barclays to increase my overdraft to £3k. They said on the phone I was eligable to make it £15k and were seeing if I wanted to do it. A bit of a shock that I was eligable for so much, seeing as my accounts hadn't been run well, but I accepted. Since then, my cashflow has gone down and I was struggling to keep inside the £15k (often over it). Any money I put into it, kept getting sucked up in interest, it was like walking up a sand bank. Then Barclays contacted me and said that there were options out there for me and that I could consolidate my overdraft, credit card and a loan, all into 1 loan. They said this could be the best way, as they could see I was struggling to keep up and had slipped up on a previous repayment plan. They also said, that sometimes depending on my circumstances, the loan could be interest free. I uhm'd and ar'd and they suggested that I compile a list of my income and outgoings and that they would call back in a week to discuss. Knocking the interest off things, seemed like a good idea to me, so I have been waiting for their call. Two months down the line, still no call. Then I find out from Barclays (by chance), that my account has been closed and it is showing zero balance! I have also just had another of my Barclays accounts (which I rarely used and always kept in 100% good order) closed out of the blue. When I called them about this, I spoke to someone in collections who said that my main account was showing as zero balance and coming up as 'Money Manager'. The guy didn't know what this meant though and couldn't tell me much more. I have recently had a couple of voicemails from a firm called Credit Solutions. I guess this could be in connection with the situation? My questions are; a) Is there a deal to be had with this Credit Solutions, b), will it effect my credit history in any way, c) can I hold Barclays accountable for anything (i.e. puting me in so much debt, charges etc) and d) is there anything else I should know? Many thanks in advance for any feedback
  22. Any advice on this would be very much appreciated. Barclays have frozen my personal and business accounts and are demanding repayment in full. I'm overdrawn £1,765 on my personal account. The overdraft limit is £1,600, with a £150 buffer. The business is no longer in operation. That account has no overdraft limit but somehow I've arrived at £1,700 overdrawn in that as well. I have no other bank account and my credit rating is already dreadful as a result of other, ongoing debt problems. I doubt I'd be able to get another account, unless there's a very willing bank out there somewhere. I'm currently only working in a voluntary capacity. I've had mental health problems and I really don't feel as though I could hold a job down (much as I'm sure the benefits people would disagree). I don't claim any benefits at all. I've been told that I'd be unlikely to get any as my husband is American and I haven't paid national insurance for a few years. We have no income and I'm living off my parents. I really can't see a way out of this. Thanks in advance for any advice you might be able to give.
  23. First of all, amazing site, was so happy to have found it and a glimmer of light to my miserable problems with Barclaycard. Recently requested my credit report from checkmyfile and have quite a few problems relating to defaults/late payments with Barclaycard. The problem lies with a combination of me moving house and then direct debit being cancelled at the same time, hence Barclaycard not getting paid for months on end which I was not aware of. I only found out about the problem when Barclaycard took the outstanding amount in full (plus lots and lots of fees) directly from my Barclays bank account. Therefore the debt was cleared in full including all fees. Im now trying to tidy up my credit report as im desperate to get a mortgage but have got no chance with all these late payment markers all over my file. What I wanted to know was if there was any way I could ask Barclaycard to remove the defaults/late payment marks on my credit file. I know they probably wont do it just out of goodwill, but could they be removed as part of a reclaim of credit card charges? Just checked my statements and every month the balance was outstanding I had: Late payment charge £12.00 Over credit limit charge £12.00 These charges were applied from statements October 2008 to March 2010 – so the charges alone came to £432. The account is still showing is open on the credit report as for the last 8 months under Barclaycard its showing as green. I will call Barclaycard tomorrow and ask them to update my address details to my new address. Very confused as I read a lot about things changing regarding reclaims to bank accounts. Hence im not really sure if I could reclaim these charges, and if as a consequence of reclaiming the charges I could get the late payment markers removed. Any help will be greatly received.
