Sick (literally) of DCA's
spacecadet5767 replied to spacecadet5767's topic in Debt Collection Agencies
Thing is Brigadier, it was on Noddle before I sent the letter, and now a while after the letter was sent, it's gone. Coincidence? -

Right, so here's an update, I think. Just checked my Noddle account and have noticed that the alleged debt is no longer showing. What, if anything, should I make of this development? Thanks. -

Default Date : July 2008 Should I contact a CRA and request OC details? Thanks -

Fair enough. Just wondered if it might be one of two cases : 1. They reply with, we can't prove the debt is yours, so that's the end of that. OR 2. We have proof that the debt is yours, and here it is, so pay up. Wrong thinking on my part I guess. Problem is, although they may have shut up for now, the default still shows on my CRA records and is therefore affecting me negatively. Surely, its not fair for a debt I know nothing about, and they haven't sent proof of, to be on my CRA records? Thanks. -

Hi all, having sent the letter as drafted by Brigadier, and having sent it by recorded delivery, I have a question. Is there a time limit for them to reply? They haven't as yet, and it's more than a week. And if there is a time limit, and it has passed, does this mean the alleged debt is in dispute? Is there a follow up letter if I receive no response, or should I leave it till I get a response? Sorry, that's more than 1 question. LOL. Thanks for your help. -

So just send the same letter to the DCA again? And send a copy to Scotcall too? -

Sorry Brig. Original DCA is Cabot and the doorstep people now acting for them, ScotCall. Thanks. -

Update - Wrote to the DCA regarding the above unknown debt. Got no reply whatsoever until today. And instead of a reply to my query, they have referred me to some doorstep people who are now threatening to show up on behalf of the DCA, as I have made no plans for repayment with them. Any advice? Should I resend the same letter to the new people, adding the bit about 'don't bother my doorstep' etc? Thanks. -

Hi dx. Not the SB ones, no. As they have gone from my CRA file. And the two remaining detail DCA's not the OC. These are due to shortly become SB. Thanks for your help. -

Hi guys, no update as yet. But I got to thinking about PPI and reclaiming. I realise that my original creditors may owe me, but what if I can't remember my account details, or even who my creditors were? We are talking quite a few years back! Or is it simply a case of tough luck? Thanks all. -

Thanks Brigadier. That's brilliant. I'll send it asap. One thing though. As the 'alleged' debt has a default date of 2008 should I leave out the part regarding SB? I am arguing that I have no knowledge of said debt, not that it is SB. Does it make any difference? -

Ok. Sounds good. Should I write to them? And what letter should I send? The one you previously mentioned in this thread? Or should I wait for them to write to me again, and then reply? Sorry for all the questions! And thanks for you patient help. -

Hi Brigadier, absolutely no mention or note of who the original creditor is/was? -

UPDATE : Apparently my unknown debt is being handled by Clarity Credit Management for Cabot Financial. Anyone have any experience of this lot? Thanks. -

UPDATE : so I got a report from Equifax. Pretty much the same as Noddle. Couple of things due to expire shortly as above. Plus the missing stuff, assumed SB'ed? I also saw the same unknown account as above. I contacted Equifax regarding the unknown account. Got a reply today saying that the DCA want me to phone them to discuss the matter. Fat chance!!! Just waiting for the report from Experian. So what does everyone think? Chances are good that stuff not on the reports so far IS SB'ed? As for the unknown account, they want me to call them. I know you guys always say NEVER do that. So what now? Appreciate the help! -

Had a quick look at Noddle and no big surprises. My CCJ is there but as I said due to "expire" in a few months. Also a debt that will hit 6 years after default date in a few weeks. Apart from that no sign of a few so called debts that are being chased. Does this mean they are SB'ed or maybe not noted on Noddle? Actually that's not strictly true. I noted a debt on there that I do not recognise at all! And it has an account start date that is impossible as I wasn't even in the country at that time and hadn't been for quite a few months - almost a year in fact. Any ideas? Should I ignore it? Wait for them to write again and then send off a prove it letter? Ill send off for my statutory report tomorrow to the other 2 CRA's. -
