  1. I agree, it's alway's a problem when you can't replace your children. Hammy
  2. Thanks for the mention, it's aways nice when you can get someone else to pay for your tyre repairs. No hard feelings. Hammy
  3. I find this to be quite unbelievable. For that reason Majik, I'm Out Enjoy your puncture. I'm sure that, eventually, you will get someone else to pay for it. Hammy
  4. I think, maybe, the customer base of the organisations which i am involved in are a bit more trusting of their garage friends. Hammy
  5. I expect when you took delivery of the hire car you signed the hire agreement to say you would be liable for loss or damage in certain circumstances. If, and it's a big if as lot's of garages don't make you sign the work order, you signed the work order for the insurance repair, you probably, should have anyway, signed a disclaimer to say the garage are not liable for any loss or damage caused whilst in their care, unless you could prove their negligence. It would be nigh on impossible for you to prove negligence on the garages part for a puncture unless it was willful damage in which case, that would be criminal damage and an entirely different matter. Hammy
  6. Hi There is no usual requirement for the garage to inform the insurance company of a puncture, unless it forms part of the claim, not likely in your case. Why would you take a picture of the odometer before it went in. I can say this is not an action I would expect from your usual run of the mill customer. Hammy
  7. Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear. A puncture is a puncture, it's just one of those things, you can't blame the garage and you'll probably never prove when or what caused it. I can't see the garage pulling a fast one for £58................. I've just paid £520 for 4 Tyres, so your £58 is dead cheap! If it's £58 that means a new tyre, so the puncture will be close to or on the sidewall. Most tyre companies can't or won't try and fix it they will only sell you a new tyre. For a cheaper, permanent & safe fix, you could try finding someone local who will do a vulcanised repair, £15-£20, so on a tyre worth £58 this might prove to be false economy, depends on the tread depth. It's unfair to always balme the garage & probably, No way, was it caused by the accident, just bad luck. Hammy
  8. Yeah, Martin. As you said, Take 'em to the cleaners, that will help everybody. It was a mistake for heavens sake. Everybody makes them, even you I expect. Why not call for the mechanic (A Technician would never have done this!) to be sacked, just before Christmas as well, just to make it hurt a bit more. Maybe then his wife will leave him and take the kids, that should help with the finances at Christmas, then he'll lose the house and end up on the streets. Good result, that'll serve him right, won't it. Of course, this is an over-reaction to the situation. Just like some of the original suggestions to the poster. Get it collected, fixed for nothing, wash and vac, and your away. Hammy
  9. Like I said, quote from a well known manufacturer :- "Note: Manufacturer's data according to new government test regulations. Fuel consumption figures: The results given here do not express or imply any guarantee of the fuel consumption of any particular vehicle with which this information may be supplied. Vehicles are not individually tested and there are inevitable differences between individual vehicles of the same model. The vehicle may also incorporate particular modifications. Furthermore, the driver's style and road traffic conditions, as well as the extent to which the vehicle has been driven and the standard of maintenance, will affect its fuel consumption. Fuel tank Petrol/Supercharged usable fuel 88.1 litres (18.5 gallons). Diesel usable fuel 84.1 litres (19.4 gallons). Low fuel warning at 9 litres (2 gallons) approximately." Hammy
  10. Well done, sounds like the auto-shop came to your rescue, that's good service. However the garage were not entirely wrong. Genuine OE manufacturers fitted parts usually come with a warranty which includes labour if the failed part is replaced by a Dealer. Parts supplied by an Auto-shop or equivalent are usually covered only by the parts warranty and do not include labour. The labour is usually covered by the original fittee (if that's even a word!!) Most business's would do it under goodwill and just write off the labour involved. You did good though. Hammy
  11. People died in the Cumbria incident, no-one died here. Hammy
  12. Whilst i don't want to lessen the severity of the situation, I would like to point out a couple of thing's. I suppose Ruffus you have reached whatever tender age you are without ever making a mistake........................ Martin, Get the repairs done, then kick of for some compo. For what? If the repairing garage collect it, fix it free, clean the engine bay and maybe throw in a wash and vac then where is the loss that can be mitigated with 'compo'. Thankfully nothing bad happened but retribution isn't always the answer. I'm sure they will sort it out. Hammy
  13. You don't have to keep explaining it to us. Those of us who know what we are doing understand very well the point you are trying to make. It's just we can't accept it. Fuel comsumption figures are quoted to help with a purchase decision, they form part of compulsory EU legislation. They should be used for comparison and not as a guide. Plus, there are a wide range of factors and 'as new' modifications that can distort the actual figures. I expect all of this is explained in the small print, even Saab's. How many times do we have to explain it to you!! Hammy
  14. Hi All I already got told off about replying to this thread, so I have to be careful, but it's a double post from the Vehicle Retailers and Manufacturers section. There is something distinctly odd about the whole thing in my opinion. Quote "The chassi is F/////" Is this a new technical term I've never heard of before? Be careful and Bookie, OMG, 'What's a TVR' TVR Now under Russian Ownership Joke, OK, humour, please accept it as that Bookie Hammy
  15. HoB Get him to ask for a refund. Hammy
  16. Hi there Parts fitted under a warranty are only usually covered for the unexpired part of said warranty. Payments outside of this would be considered "Goodwill". As always, exceptions apply to this rule. Hammy
  17. Blimey Conniff, I thought I was the tactless one!! That comment was really below the belt and unnecessary, you have obviously not had any close dealings with anyone with Mental Health problems. Quite unfair. Hammy
  18. First and last post on this particular thread as I don't want to be drawn into protracted conversations with anybody or anything. However, Peugeot do have a particular problem associated with this part on certain models and certain years, I would suggest your problem has not gone away, it's just not apparent at this time. Buy the part, if it's not needed now it almost certainly will be in the future. Hammy
  19. Isba Exactly why, as you so eloquently put it, are the Warranty company, quote, "shafting" the OP? Their decision is, and was, self inflicted by the OP. V. bad grammar! but you know what i mean Hammy
