  1. https://www.gov.uk/support-for-mortgage-interest This is a link for the information about your mortgage help. Do either of you receive Income Based benefit or will you become entitled later in the claim if your husband is not successful finding employment. Do you have any insurance on your mortgage for redundancy, unemployment? An alternative is for you to see if you can add your husband on to your Incapacity claim ? Do you currently receive any PIP or DLA, if you do then if it is Middle or Higher Care or any rate of Daily Living for PIP your husband could claim Carers Allowance. If your husband is attending the courses information sessions then he can reclaim any travel costs incurred (petrol or public transport costs are ok but the cost of a taxi has to be agreed in advance) Speak to your mortgage lender and ask about payment holidays or reduced payments, the sooner you speak to them to sort out payments the more they can consider helping.
  2. There were national system issues with the telephony services today especially this morning, and yes calls are definitely answered after 5pm I know as I was working until 6pm tonight and yes staffing levels do drop after5pm but there were staff still taking calls right up to 6pm! I am not on the phones answering enquiries but was needed for support during a call.
  3. If you have a job offer pendign phot ID you can speak to your work caoch and they may be able to access the flexible support fund (not usre they will be able to pay for a renewal passport) but they may be able to suggest an alternative, I know a few people had a provisional driving licence paid for on one occasion.
  4. Staffing levels do reduce after 5pm but there are staff available to take calls up to 6pm and if the call continues after 6pm the call is seen through to the end. I am not saying that you wouldn't fin a member of staff who would terminate the call but then again I don't think you would find a telephony agent anywhere that wouldn't be tempted to cut the call so not just in DWP is it?
  5. No once you are in receipt of UC you stay on UC, you do not claim ESA. you move "client" groups but will still be subject to a CC until a WCA deems you not fit for work.
  6. community care grants have been replace by local support which is administered by the local authority in England, Scotland and Wales. Your local authority will then direct you to a local provision who provide low cost furniture and/or white goods.
  7. Under the UC rules a claimant still has to follow a claimant commitment and still be taking some activities to seek employment until they have attended a WCA (there are always exceptions e.g. in hosptial or seriously ill. Anxiety, low mood depression do not exempt you automtically from seeking some work and thereofre a revised claimant commitment is needed) Once you are claimin UC you cannot then claim ESA
  8. YEs now you are UC you remain on UC, if you manage to get a fit not from your GP you can call UC to arrange an appointment to have your SOFFW copied and the copy will be sent to the Mail Opening Unit ready to be uploaded for the processing team to access. You will still be subject to a Claimant Commitment whilst waiting for a work capability assessment but you can ask for this to be reviewed to take your health restrictions into account.
  9. If you remove your email address they will ask you why and you can be mandated to open a new email address anyway so it's up to you. If you remove your mobile phone number again that't up to you but just be prepared for a work coach to ask how an employer will get in contact with you as it could raise a doubt on your availability. A Work Coach can ask you at any time during your attendance to demonstrate how you completed your job search activities and to forward proof of applications if you were matched to a vacancy for example. If you don't agree with an activity on your claimant commitment have you tried suggesting an alternative action instead? If it is noted on your claimant commitment and you don't do it then you could face potential DMA action and sanctions on your claim so it may just be easier to try and sort something else now.
  10. I haven't been in retirement, far too many years left in me yet! I have been popping on to read and lurk most weeks but I am human and have a lot of my own personal issues, so haven't been as active online as I once was with working full time and caring for a young family. Your comment is by no means an isolated one but sometimes it is the comment that sparks a reply, I have no intention of making you feel guilty about your opinions and have no interest in barring you or shutting you up. If I can put up with verbal and physical abuse/assault at work then I can certainly handle a bit of online banter Lousy customer service can be experienced in any area of life it is not wholly excluded to DWP, but just because I experience something not as good as I would expect I don't automatically think that everyone is the same and give everyone an individual chance.
  11. Have you applied for Recoverable Hardship following your sanction? If you haven't then contact the service centre to book this appointment, you will have to demonstrate your jobseeking has met all steps on your Claimant Commitment during the 7 days prior to the application or it will be turned down. For the record yes I work in a JCP office yes I work on both the JSA and the UC sides of the business but I have never been instructed on how to wind people up. I like to think I treat everyone the way I like to be treated. All other work coaches I work with also demonstrate this but yes I have witnessed in other offices lousy customer service, please don't tar us all with the same brush, this is one reason I hardly post any more.
  12. http://about.universalcredit.service.gov.uk/kms/SitePages/glossary-let=j.htm You can try contacting the UC service centre to see if it can be claim now, however there will be separate claimant commitments required if you go down the UC and JSA© route combined. It also depends if the OP requires help with housing costs prescription costs etc as those would be claimed separately if JSA© claimed but considered automatically if UC continues. It will depend if the OP was liable to pay NI contributions on the wages from previous employment as if not then the claim for UC is currently correct. The OP may want to contact the Service Centre to enquire about the JSA© claim
  13. You can request an appointment through the Service Centre for a claim for Recoverable Hardship, they will then book you an appointment at the Jobcentre and you have to provide your ID, bank statement showing the balance on the day of application and also you will have to provide written evidence of all jobsearch conducted in the 7 days preceeding the Hardship Interview. When you attend the office you will be given a hardship application to complete and will then be seen to check through and gather any additional information (as detailed above) if you have not met this your application will be refused. You also need to ensure your have no outstanding work prep activities or again your application will be refused. You will be contacted with a decision by the Service Centre who will then advise if it has been awarded and if yes how much and how it will be recovered from future awards. You will need to do this each assessment period so every month it is not awarded indefinitely or for the entire period of the sanction if it exceeds the assessment period of one month. I have known someone be entitled one month and then nothing after that.
  14. Usually repayment of debt is only accepted if it was deemed that the debt had to be repaid with immediate effect by the lender. Very little is deemed as an essential these days, a holiday would be classed as luxury unless a Doctor wrote a letter stating it was essential for the state of your health, new furniture you may have to prove that your existing furniture was no longer for for purpose. If you do decide to pay anything off then keep receipts and be prepared to defend why you spent the money, you find it isn't allowed and you are still treated as having the capital.
  15. If a UC claimant or partner has left employment voluntarily or been dismissed they are required to fill in paperwork to give their reasons, the work coach has no discretion and it is down to the Decision Maker based in the Service Centre to make the decision. No way of knowing what the outcome decision could be sorry. If a sanction is imposed then you do have the right to a reconsideration. There is recoverable hardship available in the event of a sanction but as it say it is then recoverable from future awards.
  16. no problems just have to be very careful what I post.
  17. A P45 is not required for JSA, as there is a download from HMRC to confirm if the contributions in the relevant income tax years have been met. A P45 is more for a new employer to ensure your tax codes are correct initially to prevent emergency tax codes.
  18. Before I get shot down in flames, I work in jcp. I see claimants for work search reviews and accept any evidence they provide as it can be in any format they wish to provide as long as it can be backed up if there are any doubts (e.g. the same jobs applied for each fortnight without fail.) If someone wants to show me a written record I accept it, if they want to tell me verbally because they are illiterate and can't read and write I accept that (refer them to other provision for additional support). Also contrary to popular belief I do not have a target set to sanction people. My role is to support claimants in their efforts to seek work not hinder them.
  19. https://www.turn2us.org.uk/Benefit-guides/Universal-Credit-timetable/Universal-Credit-roll-out-so-far#guide-content Different areas are operating different rules, most areas are still operating single non householder claims who are fit for work.
  20. Hardship can be claimed by someone who has a sanction imposed for either JSA or ESA. They would need to have entitlement or underlying entitlement to Income Based JSA/Income Related ESA. Hardship is considered for claimants who are vulnerable, can be treated as vulnerable, (e.g long term health condition, pregnant, child in the household) and if they are responsible for their own housing costs, typically someone living at parents home (parents not in receipt of benefits themselves) and therefore not liable for housing costs would not be eligible for hardship.
  21. Have you asked if the appointments are mandatory or voluntary? If they are voluntary then you can decline further interviews and work coach support until such time that it does become mandatory.
  22. Dayle your jobsearch will only be checked at your next work search review (either with the work coach or the work coach assistants) if there is sufficient evidence of jobsearch provided then payment will continue as normal but if there is in-sufficient information in whatever format you chose to use ten a referral will be made regardless of if the payment had been advanced for the Christmas periods. For claimants who would have been due to attend the office for work search reviews during the period of being excused the payment system is built in with an advance marker to release payments automatically but you are only officially entitled to this payment (for JSA) when you attend the office following this to sign the declaration to state that you have had no changes in circumstances or completed any paid or unpaid work during the 4 week period. So yes your jobsearch will be checked but only when you next attend.
  23. Dayle you can record your jobsearch however you want to. You can write it on a piece of paper, use UJM or try to recall in your memory to give a verbal account whichever is the best method for you, remember some people are unable to use internet, computers for health reasons or bail restrictions. I work for JCP currently have done for many years, I enjoy it but I'm based in the customer service side of things not the work coach side. As Antone said there are those who come in shouting and abusive (I've been physically assaulted, verbally assaulted and held at knife point) I've been verbally assaulted out of hours in front of my children too and that for me is the only time it is a complete and utter no-no. he only thing that I take from it is that I try my best at all times no matter how infuriating or unhelpful someone I encounter and about is to bite my tongue and try not to launch. It is not nice to be shouted/sworn a/thumped etc for doing a job where you are bound by regulations and guidance as much as your are as a claimant. I use UJM at work as I also work on the work search review team (signing) and I only access and check activities when a claimant is sat in front of me and we are all perfectly well aware that UJM access is not mandatory it is voluntary. My Dad came in the office recently to visit me albeit briefly to drop something off for me as it was supposed to be my lunch break and he witnessed the level of abuse I encounter on an alto frequent basis unfortunately, my Dad is an OAP now but it was all he could do not to belt 7 shade of **** out of the person in front of me, he just never knew what I put up with until then. All I would say is no matter how infuriated you feel wit the person in front of you try to imagine how you would feel if it was your wife, mother, daughter, sister, dad, husband, brother or son who was on the receiving end. But I still love my job when I can actually help somebody get everything they are entitled to
  24. The office will be open tomorrow as I'm back to work then too. Sometimes the courses aren't always offered when requested as the providers may already have places fully allocated and due to nature of the funding for these courses unless there is a firm job offer in writing the Business Managers have no authority to approve the course. Madness yes it sure is and believe it not just as infuriating for the work coaches.
  25. Surfer all you need to do is notify your adviser that you no longer have the mobile phone and ask them to remove the number from your records, I'm sure the "muppets" can remove that then.
