  1. Hi, Has anyone successfully managed to have "fees" returned by Barclaycard and what was the outcome with regards to your Credit Card Account? Did they close it or threaten to close it? I'm curious as I am considering sending them a request for refunds, but don't really want to lose the Credit Card...
  2. Although promised by Halifax on Sunday 9th April 2006 that statements would be uploaded to my online account within 24 hours - there's still nowt. They've taken £5.00 out my account though! No doubt for "processing". Maybe they are planning on "posting" them instead. Will keep ya'll posted Wished the smilies on this site worked *pout*
  3. I have interent banking, so I just log in and cancel em myself. Don't bother with the staff at the bank! EDIT BY MONKEY: REMOVED INSULTING WORD
  4. hahahahahahaha Well done!!! I'm so pleased for you! Reading this thread was like reading a mystery novel..you just didn't know what was going to happen next. It has also given me hope! I'm waiting for some statements from the Halifax, and then I will be putting a claim in. I have estimated that they have taken approx £750.00 so far. Once again, CONGRATULATIONS & WELL DONE! p.s. Loving the dancing beans... hahaha
  5. oops! I've made a bit of an error when I sent my letter off to Capital one yesterday. Although I asked for my money back - I forgot to state that they had 14 days in which to do so. I was thinking of editing the original letter and sending that again with the due date highlighted. However, I am expecting another "fee" to be addedd to the account in a matter of days, as a result of it being over it's limit. The account being over it's limit as a result of them adding a "fee" for me going 89p over the limit once they had added on their "interest. Is it a good idea to wait until the account is no longer in a "fee charging" state before I send the letter again?
  6. Ah! I see! I thought it was to do with Bank Accounts! hahaha But yes, I agree with you. It should say something else.
  7. I have all of my Statements, so I have sent off my request for payment letter via Recorded Delivery today. Will update!
  8. mmm.. interesting. I did actually apply for a savings account at the same time as I wanted to start putting away £100per month towards buying my own place. However, I didn't receive any further information about it when they replied to me regarding the new current account. If/when I get this money back, it's going to help me buy my own place! Nice little deposit there me thinks!
  9. I have in excess of £1600 to go into an account every month. I did apply for the Premier, but they said they could not do that "right now" and offered me a Current Account with Cheque Book & Electron Card instead. It is not a basic account - so I expect it will get upgraded at some point - once i have proven that I can operate the account properly!
  10. Managed to locate most of my statements, but there were a couple missing. I chose not to have paper statements, and Halifax had "renewed" my online account so that some of my online statements have been archived. Called them today, and said "Hi, I am trying to sort out how much I have paid in rent and when, but I have misplaced some of my statements. Would it be possible at all for you to send me those that are missing? Is that something you’d be able to do?" "Sure! No problem. Which ones do you need?" After advising the very nice young lady of the statements that I needed, she suggested that she sent me all the statements for a set period that covered all the missing ones, as it would cost £5 for each request otherwise. She said that I should give it 24hours before they are uploaded to my online banking. Come to think of it – it’s not costing them postage and paper – so they’re a bit cheeky charging me fiver aren’t they? Anyway, that’s not really an issue. I’m looking forward to viewing these statements. From the statements that I have so far (only about 4 are missing) I have calculated that they have taken £627.00 in the last 3 years. Also, I wanted to gauge your opinions on my approach with the Bank. Once I have everything in hand and sent them my request for a refund giving x days, I only intend to establish that are in receipt of my letter. I do not intend to chase them up for a response within the designated timeframe that I have given in my letter or pussy foot around them. After all - they certainly don't when they are chasing you!. Is this a good idea. Will keep you all updated on progress.
  11. Here would be a good start. http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=243 Good Luck!
  12. Just wanted to say that after having read this whole thread, I applied to the Alliance & Leicester yesterday. They offered me a Current Account with a Cheque Book and Electron card. It is not a basic account, so I am assuming that once I have proved that I can manage a Bank Account properly they will upgrade the debit card. Not that I am too bothered if they don't as I have a o% credit card that I use as a debit card, and that gets paid off in full every month. Anyway, the application process took about 10 minutes. Within 1 minute I had received an email acknowledging my application, and also saying that a decision would be emailed to me within 24 hours. 2 Minutes later I received another email welcoming me to Alliance & Leicester, and advising me that paperwork would be sent out in the next working day post. So all in all - it took me less than 15 minutes to get a new Bank Account. I am well chuffed!
  13. I am about to pursue the BoS. It was a basic account. They refused a Direct Debit for something like £5.00 and then charged me which made the account overdrawn. I asked for it back. They refused, so I had my wages paid elsewhere. After continuing to add charges every month, they eventually closed the account and said I owed them about £260 or something like that. I need to find out, so I can write to them and get the matter settled once and for all. Thing is the account was an online account (so no branch as such) but the address for all correspondence is Edinburgh. Do the same rules that apply to UK Banks apply to the BoS in Edinburgh?
  14. Further to my post above, I applied to Alliance & Leicester about 2 hours ago and they have offered me a Current Account with a Cheque Book and Electron card. This took a total of 3 mins from me hitting the "submit application" button, to then sending me an acknowledgement followed by a welcome to A&L email. I am chuffed to bits!
  15. Fiver on it's way! You guys have been truly brilliant, and I am so glad you are here. Hope my small contribution helps! x
  16. Thanks for welcoming me! I have applied for a step account with Nat West - will see what happens. I would really like to take on Halifax, as they have done such silly things like charge me £39 for a £2.49 SO. This actually happened the same day a cheque I had previously paid into my account had cleared. It would appear that during their "automated" banking system, if the credit had been applied to my account before the Standing Order payment, I would not have been charged. So for the sake of 2 seconds, they charged me £39.00. I did ask for it back, and they told me No.
  17. Was your application successful? I want to open another account. I applied to First Direct who told me to go and swing (in the nicest possible way or course!) I have a cardcash account with Halifax, but as I intend to pursue them as well I would like to open another account. I don't need an overdraft but I do need a cheque book. I could not see an option for a basic account on the A&L website. Any advice greatly appreciated
  18. Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and have been reading for the past few weeks to get a full understanding of what I need to do. I wasn't going to actually go ahead, but seeing all the support and advice on this site, and remembereing just how unsympathetic these institutions were when I was having difficulties, I have decided to go for it. I intend to put claims in against Capital One and Citi Cards. I am also considering Barclaycard and Halifax Bank. My only reluctance with Barclaycard is that they will (could) close my account. Same with Halifax, and I am having difficulty opening an alternative Bank Account. Anyway, I have calculated that I am owed £433 by Capital One and £375 by Citi Cards. I have all my statements and have gone through them with a fine tooth comb in triplicate! My letters are drafted and ready to go. In addition to my letter requesting a refund, should I also include my calculations seeing as I did not request a DPA? Thank you for reading my post!
