Hello.

I am having issues trying to pay an outstanding water bill to United Utilities,

it's a final water and wastewater bill.

I received this bill a few days ago at a property I gave as a forwarding address when I moved house back in May

( this bill is for the last few months that I lived at the property ).

I have contacted the number(s) on this bill and they connect to a company called Orbit which is a debt collection agency.

I informed them That I wanted to deal with this bill through United utilities and not Orbit but they weren't having it.

I rang United Utilities on a general enquiry number to get some sort of answer

but again the operator at United utilities said I had to go through Orbit,

I made it clear to them that I would only deal with United Utilities and not Orbit and when pressed said that it has nothing to do with United utilities.

The thing is does anyone have any idea how I can get through to the water company and get them to deal with this bill?

Thanks.

yes it would but ofcourse you'd need your account number with UU

most interweb banking portals [your banking site]

you can select via pulldown list - utilities

and sometimes UU are listed there

then all you do isput in your account number as their ref number so the money goes off the right account shall we say.

strange UU wont deal on the phone

pretty grass IMHO.

they could take payment there and then.

but you are totally correct

you don't have to deal with any no powers DCA

they ARE NOT BAILIFFS

and don't even own the debt

Yes I have paid UU through my internet banking in the past for this address so I will dig it out.

They want a payment of a little over £200 ( bank giro attached ) and as I've said it needs to be split paid.

Would this action keep the wolves from the door so to speak ?

Just to add, as I've no old water bills would the likelihood of the account number on this final bill be the same for previous bills or do you think it has changed due to Orbit getting on board ?

Thanks.

I've just been thinking, the reason I wanted to contact UU is to sort out a payment plan over a couple of months as I have stated but to no avail.

I can't really make a payment till the end of the month which I a couple of weeks away.

Do you think a small gratuitous payment will suffice ?

Thanks dx, this is the problem, actually ringing them and getting anywhere !!

I will go down the Internet banking route and go from there.....

Just for anyone reading this thread who has similar issues with outstanding water bills just be aware that the bill you may get for any outstanding charges may direct you ( upon contacting then ) to a debt collection agency, in this case Orbit. I do believe they 'work' with other water authorities.

Thanks again.
