I have a number of outstanding debts that have been prt of a dmp for the last 3 year.

I was horrified to discover I have paid in £4300 and £1800+ has been taken in fees by immediate financial.

Although 3 items have been settled at a reduced rate.

I got into debt 4 years ago when I separated from my ex husband and he left me with 3 children,

no financial assistance and I was only working prt time.

my dad has offered to help me with this (he got £5000 from my gran when she passed) and try to pay things off myself with a lump sum part settlement.

I contacted the people I knew I owed and sent a standard letter.

Lowell have come back to me with 3 accounts they hold.

I know about 2 and don't dispute them - the 3rd is not on any credit file

I have checked them all apparently for shop direct

- and there is one missing for £300 that on my crf it advises the debt is with Lowell

but I'm not sure who it was originally for.

The debt I'm not sure of was an old catalogue last used in 2010.

Lowell said this balance is £5500 a which is way more than I ever had on it.

I cannot check as it isn't on any crf so I'm not really sure what to do?

Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.

firstly dump immediate financial.

and get all the fees back you can and any 'pot' for settlements they may hold.

before you ever think of paying any debt

esp to a DCA

you need to send them a CCA request

for each debt.

Think you need some advice about the people who handled the DMP, as it does not sound good. Have they taken most of what you paid as fees ?

Perhaps call National Debtline. to ask what you can do about this I.e register a complaint with the relevant body.

You should never use a debt manager you have to pay for, as there are organisations such as Stepchange.

We could do with some help from you.

Thank you.

I'll do what you suggest then and send the CCA to all the peopl eI owe to!

Want to make sure I'm paying the ones I should be!

I have paid £120 a month to immediate financial

- never missed a payment

- they have used £2000 towards paying off 3 items on a reduced settlement and £1800 is their fee!

I have paid £4300 into the account with them to date!

I owe £10k total left - my dad can give me £5-£6k max so I'm really hoping I can negotiate with them

although this new amount by Lowell has scared me a bit £5500!

Can't understand why it's not on my crf tho!?

Makes me wonder if I do actually owe it! X

Sorry you mention getting some fees back - how do I go about this!?.

You will need to look into how to register a complaint with the DMP provider, as the fees charged seem excessive. National Debtline may be worth calling about this.

If the debts are not on your credit file then don,t do anything with them until they have responded to the CCA request.

We could do with some help from you.

well firstly I'd send those CCA requests for all the debts being paid by IF

[can you list them please]

I'd also send IF themselves an SAR.

get all the statements and all the paperwork they hold on you.

many of these fee charging DMP's hold secret F&F pots that punters don't know about.

The problem you have is that debts get passed around and mistakes are made. You could end up paying a debt that had already been settled. Fredrikson are now part of Lowell group.

You really need full information from the DMP company as to what debts they have been dealing with and statements if account. You send off the CCA requests and see what comes back. Until you have full information it is difficult to understand the situation.

We could do with some help from you.

They were credit cards mostly - an old joint bank account. They have been around so many different people I don't know what is with who! I also have an Argos and a next but they are still with the original creditor.

At the time I was going though separation an I was only interested in keeping a roof over my kids. I just wanted everyone off my back but now I have openned my eyes and saw exactly what damage has been done! And money I have thrown away!

Can I suggest that you do phone national Debtline or Stepchange. Both have freephone helplines and you do appear to need more help than an Internet forum. Until you can get hold of all of the info, you should not be making any further payments.

The DMP company should have been fully up to date on your debts but they have failed it seems, apart from taking their fees.

We could do with some help from you.
