I don't doubt, seatbelts, saves live, in some, if not a lot of circumstances.

Should we have ration books, to be able to go into McDonalds?

Should smoking, have an outright ban?

So why should we have a seat belt law?

If we need protecting from ourselves, for the benefit of our health

then lets have some consistency....... that's all I'm saying

(And I'll leave the personal attacks, to the site team... setting a poor example)

The problem being conniff where does it start and when does it stop. Many countries have jay walking laws and i can see no real benefit apart from saving individual lives. Alcohol smoking and obesity are all legal so if we follow your argument they need to be legislated again. There are some laws that make sense. Theft, murder etc but what about other laws that basically pick on values that have no sensual basis. Marriage is only allowed in this country between two people whereas some countries allow multiple partners. It is a fine line between protecting people and state interference.

Any opinion I give is from personal experience .

its a fact seatbelts save lifes fletch, your silly runaround point of view is just that, silly,I hope you never end up in a car accident where the doc is telling you that you should have been wearing a seatbelt as it would have saved you from being paraplegic and spending what was left of your painful life just staring at the ceiling counting tiles!

Citizenkain,

I am afraid you have entirely missed the point

The question is, is it up to the state to protect people from themselves?

If the answer is yes then shouldn't there be more regulation with regard to smoking, drinking, jaywalking , fast food, exercise etc

If the answer is no then things like the seat belt laws probably have no place

If the answer is , it depends , what does it depend on ?

For the record I do wear a seatbelt when I am in a car which isn't often although I wear it out of choice and not because i am told I have to .

Any opinion I give is from personal experience .
